I have a pair of rubber craft scissors from Stampin' Up and they are dull. I have had them for a few years and have bought MANY stamp sets and have cut out a lot of my customers sets.
Has anyone else had this happen and can you get them sharpened?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Have you tried cutting through a a few layers of aluminum foil? (Like, take a piece and fold it over a few times and then cut repeatedly.) This is what my upline advises and it always does the trick for me--my scissors are about 4 yrs old. HTH!

I do this fto my $1 scissors I get at Hobby Lobby. Please don't do this to your expensive rubber mounting scissors. Here is email addresses to Jim who does a wonderful job, prompt too.

Why did you feel the need to post such a rude reply? :?
This kind of response was totally uncalled for.

Fiskars make a scissor sharpener too... I bought one several years ago for my fabric scissors and use it for the same scissors you are asking about, cutter bee scissors, etc. It is a great investment and you can sharpen your scissors, and your friends scissors, as you need them. I'll see if i can find a link for what I am talking about.
I work in a surgery center and when the truck comes to sharpen all our itty bitty little scissors and blades I always bring my special scissors and he does a beautiful job. So try to find someone who knows someone and see if you can have this done also. Best of all its FREE,lol.

Lakegrandma gave great advice. I have heard about Jim Marcus over the years from others and everyone raves about his work!! Not only does he sharpen scissors, but he designs and makes stamps and creates the rubber for other stamp designers, like the stamps at MaVinci's Reliquary.
Of course, cutting through aluminum foil is a short term solution, but a much longer term solution is to have your scissors professionally sharpened.

My SU scissors are about 1 yr old, and I've been having trouble cutting with them recently.
It seems like sometimes the rubber slips between the two scissor blades (if that makes sense) instead of being cut - so I'm not sure whether it needs to be sharpened, or if that screw needs to be tightened, or both. Has anyone had this problem?
As far as sharpening - I have an old Pampered Chef knife and scissor sharpener that I was considering trying. Does anyone know if it's OK to use something like this - or will it hurt my scissors? Is there something unique about the blade on the SU craft scissors that makes it important to have a professional sharpen them?
I read this thread because I'm also in need of sharpening.
I received info on this fellow that lakegrandma mentioned about 2 years ago and forgot all about it. Obviously word gets around.....
I think I'll be sending my scissors to California soon.

Excuse me? I was trying to be helpful and offered up a quick, easy, and inexpensive solution, and she was snarky and shot it down without even giving a reason. I don't think it was rude of me to want to know why. I think it was rude of her to knock my advice without even a second thought. Besides, if you think that was rude where have you been? I have seen alot on this board and that doesn't even come close. Furthermore, who are you to sit and judge?
By the way, I have only used the foil twice. Considering that I've had my scissors for 4 years, I wouldn't call that a temporary solution, but maybe that's just me.
You guys are funny...too much coffee today? The "rude" part would be construed from the "give me a break" part.
Foil does work as a temporary fix, regardless of the cost of the scissors so you are right...but getting the professionally done when they get really bad is a good ides too.

Posting in all caps is considered yelling and yelling is considered rude. Perhaps you misiterpreted the tone of Carol's post. I think she was trying to be helpful, not shoot you down. She did say please.

I didn't read it as snarkiness at all. To me it sounded like she was worried you'd do something to damage your nice scissors and wanted to warn you. I, too, was surprised to see you "yell" back with such a snippy-sounding remark like "give me a break." This just shows why we have to be careful what we type because the written word alone, without vocal tone and facial expression to give meaning, can be so easily misunderstood.

Thank you LakeGrandma for the info - I'm been having this problem too and wanted to extend the life of my scissors but didn't know what to do. Thanks for the great info!
Debbie
I'm very impressed by the maturity and tact that so many of you show when faced with some of the more "difficult" situations that crop up around here from time to time. You're a good group of cyber-friends!
Thanks for all the information everyone, it's great info to put in the back of my mind for when I need my sissors sharpened. And tslayton, it sounds like you need to tighten the screw if the rubber is slipping between the blades. I've had that happen with sissors that aren't tight.
And I have one more thing to say...
Peasoup, I love your avitar with the darling little frog. It is so cute.
That's all.

I take my c/r scissors to the knife store in the mall, they sharpen all types of items from clippers to scissors. I actually had one pair (I have 2) sharpened yesterday for a whole $4, and now they work great.
I also know that our JoAnn's has a mobile scissor sharpener truck that makes the rounds. Being that there are JoAnn's in many places, maybe that is an option, too.
It is so nice when they are back to being sharp again, I hope you find a place that can sharpen them for you!
tslayton,
I think you have something more going on with your scissors than a dull blade....sounds to me like they've sprung (not a good thing!). And since they do not have a screw (mine have a rivit - your's may be different) they cannot be tightened.
I think the best thing to do would be to contact SU. These scissors should last much longer than 1 year, unless you've been cutting pot metal and house siding with them! Perhaps they will work out some kind of a deal for a discount on another pair or something.
My best guess would be that they weren't quite right when you got them and since you didn't have anything to compare them with you weren't aware of it at the time. If they are unwilling to help you with this, buy your next pair from the local stamp store and let SU know that you did it and why.
Susy
Just to clarify--I wasn't "yelling" in my post, or trying to convey that. My 5yr old daughter types in all caps when she play-types on the computer, so the caps lock was apparently down when I typed a reply and I did it so fast that I didn't even notice it or even think anything about it later on. However, yes, I agree that I may have sounded or come off as being snippy because this was 2 weeks ago and I was PMS'ing at the time and felt like I was being attacked. Anyway, I apologize to all of you that I have apparently offended, I have since moved on from this and hope that you can too. Have a great day!
I purchased a Fiskars sharpener after I saw my demo sharpen her stamp scissors. It worked great. Costco has a pack of 2 scissors and the sharpener for like $8. What a deal and the scissors are great.
I took my good fabric scissors to JoAnn'sl ETC. The section that sells the sewing machines usually has someone who will sharpen scissors. I don't remember how much they charged, but my scissors have never been so good.
My thoughts are that the sharpening man in CA must be really good, if you are willing to pay for the shipping and cost of his time. Isn't that about the cost of a new pair. I guess I am just cheap and lazy. Too lazy to find the time to run to the post office and pay when I could have something new!!! Then of course I couldn't just order scissors, I would need to get some paper, a paisley bg, etc.
