I enjoyed reading the thread about what people would like to see in the 2005-2006 Idea Book and Catalog, and it got me thinking that if there is going to be a lot of new stuff then some of the old is going to have to go to make room for the new. What do you think will be (or should be) retired from the current catalog?
Some stamp sets that come to mind are:
Mini Mates
DD Daisy
Watercolor Garden (I, II, and mini) -- to make room for Petal Prints
Baby Firsts
The Fine Print
Etc.
I am actually doing a swap/contest about the retiring sets. Each person sends me a list of 50 sets they think will retire (not including hostess, mini sets or wheels) along with two cards. Whoever has the most correct guesses wins the cards! Check it out under Guess the Retiring Sets swap under swaps.
I'm really hoping Country Fresh retires. What an ugly set!
Charming Children -- they creep me out :o
Holiday Sampler -- this needs updating!!
Magic & Wonder -- perfect Santa for the creepy Charming Children.
Many Moos
Some I think it's just time . . .
Vertical Greetings
Feathered Friends
A Greeting for All Reasons
Perfect Party
Daisy
Roughing It
Toile Blossoms
I wouldn't be surprised if many of the greeting sets retire. Every few years they seem to shake that section up. I also think the 6 sets that were 50% off in September (Cheery Chat, Nice & Narrow, etc) and the upcoming ones for the March special (except Sincere Salutations) will also retire. There are lots that I hope will retire.
Cute Critters
Tree for All Seasons
Vertical Greetings
Feathered Friends
Hedgehog Happiness
Tickled Pink
Flower of the Month
Daisy (I was sure it was going to be retired last year)
Bunch o' Bugs
I'm hoping that some of my very favorites stay on (but they've been around for several years) and so I'm adding:
Kids at Play
Wonderful Wings
Pines
Terrific Tulips
Lovely as a Tree
Fantastic Foliage
and one of the Watercolor Garden sets
I'm not sure if Terrific Tulips, Lovely as a Tree or Wonderful Wings should EVER be retired - aren't they still best sellers? You are right they have been around a long time, though. I wonder what goes into the decision to retire a set. I guessed that it was sales rank. Does anyone know anything more?
Nancy

I thought I understood that the March specials are going to be sets that will be in the 05-06 IB&C....if so, they for sure won't retire. I hope they're more exciting than the Spring Mini. Got it today and it was a major let down.
speaking of retiring sets - i know a list comes out beforehand. about when is this available so i can plan ahead? thanks for the info, if you know. i am a new demo...

I was organizing my "area" the other day and I have decided I have too many stamps. I couldn't believe those words came from my mouth. So, my next thought was, hopefully a lot of the ones I have will retire and I can sell them to my customers and get more of the accessories I want! Aren't I bad??!
Ohhhhh... I *hope* some of my favorites don't retire!!
Terrific Tulips
Watercolor Garden I and II (I just got WC II recently!)
Spring Garden (just got it!)
Lovely as a Tree (how could they retire this set?!)
Botanicals - why would they retire this?!
I just became a demo in July, so many of you have been around for several catalogs' worth of retirements. Do you think they retire sets that are old, sets that aren't selling, or sets that they have new ones that are similar? It would be great to keep the old favorites, plus get new ones!!!
I think Many Moos should go - and whatever that weird new one is - Heads Up?! Bizarre! I bet the same person designed that as designed our (non)favorite clown, Chester!

__________________ WHAT IS A STAMPPIN ADDICT!
It's someone who buys stamps they didn't normally like at first, only to see it in Split Coast Stampers gallery in a different perspective.
The Christmas before last everything they offered in the special was retired in June of last year. However, the March special there will only be one new set (Sincere Saluations) and the other 4 are ones in the current catalog so I wonder if they'll retire them all?
I can't imagine life without Terrific Tulips, Wonderful Wings, or Botanicals. I don't care how old they are, I just love them. I don't think we have to worry about In Full Bloom and I imagine Petal Prints will make it, along with Wonderful Words II.
I agree that Many Moos, Heads up, and those scary Charming Children have got to go. Yikes.
Fintastic on p. 149 is not so great either.
And I am not a big fan of the bunnies in Birthday Bunnies (p 89) and Somebody New (p.95), but that could just be my taste.
Even though they were 50% off last year (which does not bode well for them), I love Cheery Chat and Nice and Narrow. Hope they stay.
BTW,
(Hope this isn't a thread hijack)
Soozie4him: I love your aviator. Our beloved cavy Jaycee died last year after 4 years with us. It turns out I am allergic to guinea pigs and Timothy Hay (I was wondering why I was getting so many sinus infections), so we can't get another. But I love their little goofy faces. Is he or she yours?
Watercolor Garden is in the top 3 in sales, I doubt that would retire. If it does I'll be really mad!! Petal Prints is nice, but it's no Watercolor Garden.
I have only been with SU for alittle over a year (demo for a few weeks) so I do not know how old most of the stamps are but I hope they do NOT retire Fantastic Foilage, Lovely as a Tree or Teriffic Tulips any time soon. I love these sets and just got them. Now sets that can go include:
Magic and Wonder (strange santa)
Creepy Kids or whatever they are called
Simple Wishes
Many Moos - who buys this?
Fintastic
Puppy Love - that dog looks mean
Flaky Friends
Magic and Wonder
Spring Party
Nice and Easy Notes
Simple Wishes
Vertical Greetings
Greeting for All Reasons
Heads Up
Charming Children (of the corn)
DD Tea Time
Springtime Fun
DD Pines
Ladybug Picnic (replaced by Web Wishes)
Purrfect (replaced by Cool Cats)
Friendship’s Journey or Nostalgia (replaced by Travel Post or Office Ephemera)
Just Jeans (replaced by Canvas)
Bold & Basic Greetings (replaced by Sincere Salutations)
Classic Caps
All-Around
Alphabet Fun
To be replaced with Collage Alphabet, Animal Alphabet and Alphahearts
I'm with Kymbers...Many Moos is on my list. I love all of the florals and trees and stuff...but sometimes I like to make a funny/silly card and Many Moos is perfect for that. I'm a fan of cows too! (and not because I'm from Wisconsin either!).
I hope the Watercolor Gardens don't retire...I still have WCG II on my wish list!
I thought the March special was all new sets that will be in the '05/'06 catalog.
I hope the 'creepy' ones mentioned retire...don't like any of them!
I think the catalog needs a diverse range of sets. So I'm not hoping for the ones I don't like to retire because there will always be someone who wants it (except for the creepy childeren one!). Are there even any samples on this site made with those kids?
I am ready for a whole new bunch of stamps - I don't care this year since I'm not really addicted to any stamp set in particular (I know - that is SO SO SOOOO WEIRD! )....
The one I really want to see go and get replaced is
DD Daisy
then I hope these get retired just cuz I'm tired of seeing them:

Sincere Salutations will be the only new set. The other 5 are being offered from the current IB&C.
I never try to guess what will retire. Makes my mind just spin. Once I get my hands on the list it's like a tornado went through here and torn all the retiring sets out of the cabinets. After they retire, I try to post them for trades to get new stamps or I sell them off. Except for the few I keep each year for my personal stash. I could never get rid of any stamp that has a tractor in it. My DH collects and restore vintage farm tractors...I'm talking about the ones that stand about 8 feet tall!
I get excited just thinking about all the new goodies to come in the catalog each year.....I can hardly wait to see it again.

Personally, I hope all the sets designed by the Magic & Wonder Santa designer are retired. All of them are so ugly and creepy. I count at least 10 sets that could be replaced with much more appealing sets. I was lucky when the 2004 catalog came out cause I didn't lose too many stamp sets but afraid most will be retired in the next catalog. I haven't been a demo long and on such a tight budget haven't been able to buy too many of the new sets.
Ok, I'll play. I think the following are up for retirement, but I'm no expert:
Holiday Sampler
Frosty
Flaky Friends
Magic and Wonder (I hope)
A Beautiful Season (I hope it doesn't retire!!)
Window on the World (does anyone order this?)
Nice and Easy Notes
Favorite Teddy Bear (not my favorite)
Nice and Narrow
Mini mates (I'm not ready for this one to retire, I like the words)
Feathered Friends
Many Moos (I've seen cuter cows)
Perfect party (it's time to update the starter kit)
Fresh Flowers (ditto)
Cute Critters
You Warm my Heart
Hedgehog Happiness
Hang in there
Charming Children
Girlfriends (maybe they'll update it?)
Out of this World (they were out of their mind when they made this one!)
DD Pines
DD Daisy
Canine Capers and Purrfect (I'm ready for another pet set)
DD Toile Blossom maybe?
None of my scrapbooking customers ever buy the frame sets
Okay, my turn! I love this! I REALLY think that the starter kit should totally be updated! I think Fresh flowers, perfect party, and tags & More should definitely go. They may even come up with another background set to get rid of itty bitty backgrounds. As for the rest of the catalog, I agree with a lot of you. I think the ones on sale this year will be out. I think there are several that we all mentioned that we love, but they have been around for a long time, so they have a chance at being out. I also agree that all the frame ones have to go - I'm a major scrapbooker and have never bought one nor have my scrapbooking friends. One I haven't seen mentioned is Elegant Rose, I just think it looks pornographic! Sorry!

I don't actually know the names for these sets because I saw them and dismissed them immediately. This way I don't waste precious room in my cluttered brain with crappy stamp set names.
Anyway:
Creepy Santa
Creepy Kids
The Dutch Set .....WHAT were they thinking??!?

I love some of these but still think they'll be going:
