Oh maggie - I have seen the post on Facebook about your tree damage - do hope it stays fine until it is all repaired - what an unwanted hassle!!
I am still staying 'in' and staying quiet as the body is being slow to recover - so not impressed... subsequently I have spent the day stitching - sometimes forward and sometimes back, but I have made progress overall...
Good morning. Maxine, I'm sorry you are slow to recover. I hope you can care for yourself so that your body will completely recover. Sometimes we just have to slow down.
Purging is progressing.
Tree guys coming today to give me an estimate and discuss whether the tree has to come down.

Good Morning from the Aran Islands of Ireland. Our trip is going great even with little
sunshine. Rebecca and I had a wonderful time in Scotland--a few hikes, lots of driving, seeing castles and old churches, and amazing food. We had on of the best Indian meals in Edinburgh we have ever had. We also took a small group bus trip to see Hadrians Wall in northern England. We met our friends in Dublin on Sunday and trained to Doolin to start our hike. Day one was along the Cliffs of Mohr and yesterday along another cliff of amazing view over acres and acres of rocks. We had rain both days with a smattering of sun. Each day was about a 6.5 mile hike. This morning we took a transport out to the end of the island and 4 are walking the 6 miles back. Three of took the van back and are enjoying a day off at the B&B. Tomorrow we ferry back and will stay 2 nights in
Ballyvaughn. We have two days of 10+ miles of hikes, but may see if they can be shortened with a drop off. Weather is sunny today but rain is still in the forecast later and the next two days took. Bring out the rain gear that is drying!!!!!!
Barb, it is wonderful to see you and to hear about your trip. I'm glad you're having a good time, though I'm not sure I'd think so since hiking in the rain does not sound fun to me. LOL! The scenery might make up for it, though. Be safe and enjoy!
Sounds like a rather damp summer for Ireland and Barb this year - can't say I like the prospect of walking days in the rain... once upon a time, maybe, but not now. Must be getting old...
We are back to another week, or close to, of fine, sunny but frosty weather. My daffodils are sprouting, so that is something to enjoy - if watching them would make them grow faster, they would nearly be in bloom now
How did the second quote go on the pecan tree Maggie
Jeanette - what time is it over there? - it's only 8:20p.m. here!! I can't mutter at you about not sleeping, as I didn't sleep until after 2:30 a.m. myself..... we had a church AGM during the day and it got a bit feisty, which I think i was trying to process....
Maxine, I'm sorry you didn't sleep well. I feel your pain. I got up just after 2:00 since I was unable to go back to sleep. It's going to be a tiring day, I fear.
A much better night here - I slept through at least one thunderstorm, and was woken up by another at 6a.m. - apparently it had been going for some time before that!!! The thunder was right overhead at one point and it shook the house!! It's grumbling again now......
How are you getting on with your trees Maggie?
Hope Barb is not getting bogged down with the wet weather over in Ireland
Waving at all others and sending blessing from Down Under
Good Morning from Portrush, Northern Ireland. This is a seaside village along the north shore. We visited Giants Causeway and did a rope bridge yesterday. We now are in a van for one more day before ending in Belfast for 3 days. We spend two nights in Derry after finishing the walking portion of our trip. Interesting town with a ton of history. Everyone is kind of on their own today---some driving to visit a castle, others doing laundry and I am walking around town. We have a walking tour of the murals in Belfast and are visiting the Titanic museum. Two of the group head home Friday and the other 3 train to Dublin to fly home Saturday like us, but we leave from Belfast. It had been an amazing time. But not over yet!!!!
And Happy Saturday, Happy Sunday, Happy Monday, Happy Memorial Day, Happy Looooong Weekend. We're leaving this morning on an out-of-state trip - to my family reunion, but will also spend some time visiting my sister (whose dementia continues to worsen) and my uncle who lost his wife 3 months ago.
We'll return home Monday evening so I'll be back on SCS again on Tuesday!
Safe travels Jeanette - may you enjoy your time away with family.
Maggie that must have been some storm to be without power for six days!!
Just another ordinary weekend here - some sunshine, a lot of cloud, but I did get some gardening done and planted out some brassicas - hopefully they will grow, and not sulk until spring and then bolt!!
Now to finish an embroidery project, then back to card making tomorrow!
Good morning Chatters. Yes, Maxine, it was a very destructive storm, which is one of nature's most violent storms. It came with and F1 tornado that touched down not far from me and the winds were 85-100 mph. It came up so quickly that people barely had time to react. I was in my craft room when the warning came over my phone. I immediately went into my hallway and closed the door to the craft room. My hallway runs through the middle of my house. I could hear the rain pelting the windows and house and hear the wind. Frosty was in there with me. Thankfully, it only did damage to my trees yet again. And, of course, we lost power which was off for six days. That was really hard to deal with. Not only the storm but then I had my surgery on Monday. I finally had that right hip bursa removed. That has also been hard. I'm still slow getting around. It is painful, but a little better every day. I stayed at my DD's the night I had the surgery and then came back here on Tuesday. We (mostly she) cleaned out my refrigerator/freezer in the house. I still have two freezers in the garage that need to be cleaned out. I went out a few times to get food at the few places that were open. Also had the windows open at the house to get some breeze blowing, but I hope I don't ever have to deal with that again.
The storm took out my tree in the front yard. It was fairly new so I was sad to see that go. I'll have to figure out what I'll do with the stump. I also lost more of my pecan tree and need to have a company come out and trim the remaining limbs mostly that are hanging over my house. I did have one rather large limb fall onto my roof, but it had a pointed end and it fell straight down do it poked a hole in the roof during a different storm and I had water leaking into my dining room. Lucky the rain stopped and so the leak stopped. I've had a roofing company patch it, but still need to get it repaired.
The back fence is another story. I was already planning to replace it and had it planned for this past Thursday. The storm took out the fence so I was glad I already had it in place to replace it. They came on Thursday morning and demo'd it and replaced it all in the same day. They finished up about 8:30 PM. Most of the day there were only two guys working, but then a few more came and worked on setting the posts and getting the frame up. It has a rot board on the bottom and then a cap on the top. It looks great.
So that about sums up the last week here. Looks like Barb is still away enjoying her vacation and Jeanette is off to visit with family. Maxine, glad to hear you are doing well and able to get out and do some gardening. Sorry about dealing with thunderstorms there. Glad that they were not destructive ones. I'm working on getting laundry done. It takes me some time to get it done. I had a GF come by yesterday. I missed book club Thursday night and she was the hostess. She brought me some of the leftover food she had made. So good and it was nice to have a visit with her. She had gotten her power back on by Sunday night. My yard man is coming today to mow what he can in the front with all the branches piled up waiting to be removed. A scene everywhere around town. I also have a small pile in my back yard. The electric company had a tree service come clear the trees from the wires along the back fence, but they left the branches they cut down, so now I have to deal with that.
I hope Shelly is doing okay. She has been getting around a lot. Also, need to hear from Rebekah and wish Kelli would pop in to say hello some time. Happy weekend.

That storm would have been rather scary... glad that you were not harmed, even if you property was damaged - how great the men worked so long to get your fence done in a day!!
It's Sunday afternoon here and it's cloudy with the odd light shower and sometimes a patch of sunshine, but rather cool. I am on the computer early as I have Bible Study tonight.
Yes, it is good to be home. 3+ weeks is a long time to be away, but it was a fantastic trip! The weather was not the best for us, but that is to be expected in Ireland and Scotland-that is why they are both so green!!!!! I did have a cold and a cough the entire time we were there, but I did feel okay for the most part. We got home yesterday afternoon and today is laundry day. I am on the last load of 5 I think. And, it is raining here after they had great weather last week--guess I brought it along! Tomorrow we are going to Illinois for a cookout with my family.
I added a few pictures. First one is a castle, on its side.
The next two are of the hiking group. The 2nd one is the night before our hike and the 3rd one is the morning of our first day as we hiked along the Cliffs of Moher, very wet day! And, finally a flight of Irish Whiskey!
Unfortunately the castle photo wouldn't open for me - what a wonderful tri[ Barb and good to see you have returned safe and well - and have now been successfully mountaineering up Mt Laundry.
Maggie, your city (and you) had a devastating storm. I saw bits and pieces about it while we were gone. It sounds like a dreadful experience. I'm glad you are getting clean up and repairs taken care of, albeit, it probably feels like there is still way too much to do. Take care of yourself - I'm praying for your surgery recovery.
Welcome home, Barb! We missed you! The pictures are awesome!
Maxine, that's odd that the first photo won't open up for you. It's really a beautiful castle scene, so too bad you can't see it!
Good Morning SCS Friends!!!!! We had a very nice time at my great-nephew's house yesterday and his little guy Elliott. My brother, SIL, nephew and wife were also there. We had 4 generations for the cookout! Today is appointment day--dentist, hair cut, pedicure. I am also planning a stop at the garden store to get some annuals since we did not start any seeds this year. I cannot wait to get into the gardens as everything is so green, including the weeds! We had more rain overnight, so it will be good for weed-pulling. We also had some trees and scrubs taken down before we left, so we also have some open spots to get some new scrubs planted. I hope you have a Terrific Tuesday!
