Our Artist in Residence answers your questions
Q: Kimii asked: "Can you please tell me if you know of any rule on cutting out embellishments. I've seen where some people leave a little white line around whatever it is that they are cutting out, and then again I've seen where some people cut right at the very edge of their embellishment. I'm making some shaped cards that have decoupage on them, and if I leave a little white line, it doesn't match up with the main piece. So, what is the proper, best, etc. way to cut out embellishments?"
A: There are no rules! If you are hand cutting an image - also known as "fussy cutting" - you may or may not want to leave a border. For example, if you are placing your hand cut item on a dark border, you might want to leave a white edge, but if you are putting it on a white background, you might want to trim to the edge of your design. If you are using dies that have matching stamp sets, you are limited to how closely your particular die cuts a matching image. Some dies leave a border, and some do not. I think the best way to do it is the way you like to do it.

Feedback From Past Tutorials
Stephanie has a suggestion for the digital paper piecing tutorial: "I love to paper piece with digis. One thing I do to avoid the "where to put the tape issue" is to use a swipe of ATG tape (or whatever tape runner you prefer) along the edge of the paper that goes in the printer first. If it's a very small piece, I've been known to run my scrap thru my xyron first and just adhere the whole piece down."
