I am looking to purchase a silent eyelet setter (or at least one that is quieter than the hammer one I have). Any one have a preference? Suggestions?Comments?
I LOVE MY SILENT SETTER BY PROVO CRAFT. ITS COMES WITH 50 EYELETS, A PAD, 3 SIZED TIPS, THE SETTER ITSELF. I LOVE MINE. I BOUGHT ANOTHER FOR A SPARE. IT MAKES USING EYELETS SO MUCH FUN. IT DOESN'T TAKE MUCH PRESSURE TO SET A EYELET. I GIVE IT AN A+++++++

I have the Crop-A-Dile and the ProvoCraft Silent Setter. I definitely prefer the Crop-A-Dile even though it does limit where you set your eyelets (towards the edge of the paper vs. the middle of your project). The Silent setter works but it takes more effort for me. (I must not have a lot of arm strength - LOL) I have to stand up to put pressure on the handle as I twist it to set the eyelets. Just my opinion.
I have both of the above, for me I tend to grab the Silent Setter by ProvoCraft. The Cropadile is just too darn big and cumbersome for me. With the Silent Setter I can set anywhere on the card or page, not just within about an inch and a half of the edge. Although when I want to punch chipboard, the Cropadile is the tool to grab......

Ditto! LOVE LOVE LOVE my Provo Silent Setter! :grin: A word of caution, tho--it may not perform well on older brass eyelets--brass eyelets are very hard, and often difficult to set even with the hammer method. On aluminum, it's *the* keenest thing!!! And, most eyelets for paper crafters are made of aluminum now. And, it is COMPLETELY silent! :cool:
I'm too clumsy to set eyelets with the CAD; eyelets always end up on the floor and I have to hunt for 'em :rolleyes: . . . like Val, I only use the CAD to punch through thick materials!

I use both my crop a dile and the silent setter. The silent setter hurts my hands but it will set anywhere. The crop o dile is great but you can only set 1 inch in the paper. It just depends on where you want to put eyelets.
While i LOVE the crop-a-dile, it IS limited in how far onto a page it will reach, for that reason I keep my MM instant setter - not completely quiet, but better than the old hammer pounding away don't have the PC silent setter, but tried my friend's and just couldn't quite get it. like everything else from this website - you MUST have them all - hee hee LOL... :rolleyes:
I have a Karen Foster Click-It and I love it. I know it has a little punch noise to it, but I love the ease of it. You just push on it. I live kinda far from stores and I know everyone talks about the crop a dile, but I've not seen one.

Interesting thread! I actually have both of them but just the other day grabbed the old hammer when I needed to do eyelets! I watched a demo of the silent setter at my LSS and bought it but once I got it home, I could not get it to work :( I am thinking now that maybe it was because of the eyelets I tried....any tips on using the silent setter???
I have both. After setting eyelets for a swap I was in, I prefer the Crop a dile due to no stress on my wrist or shoulder! But, as mentioned, it does not reach all that far. The Silent Setter is WAY better than the hammer thingy, though. Hope these comments help you and not confuse you.
I have owned the click it, the PC Silent Setter, and the cropadile. I really like the cropadile, but it is limited as to where you can place an eyelet. I really like my silent setter, I was not impressed with the click it. I would say both with the michael's 40% coupon. They can be used for different things.

I love my silent setter and when I find an older brass eyelet that is harder to set, I use my trusty rubber mallet and give it a good whack. So that doesn't make it silent, but because it has a big weighted head, it is tons easier than my old standard eyelet setter. (How many times did I hit my finger instead of the setter with the old one?!?!?!)
My word of caution on the silent setter is not to twist when you are trying to set an eyelet with it. Just constant pressure straight down until it sets. I have stripped the screw top on mine from twisting it too much.
I am using the Spring-Let-Tool from Eyelets Etc. . It works good for me. It also makes a noise but not as bad as using a hammer... Good thing is that the company offers a little metal ring (washers) for the backside which makes it look good when you use the eyelets on cards for example.

I love my Silent Setter too. I never thought to use a rubber mallet or not twisting it, that is the way that i was showed how to use it. thanks for the info. See that is why I love this website, you get great idea's along with great advice. You guys are the greatest.

I prefer the Silent Setter for setting! :grin: I have tendinitis in my right hand/arm and I stand up, insert the tool into the eyelet, and place my left hand over the top of my right (the handle is kinda like a doorknob), and push straight down. No sweat! I love it!

I have both the Silent Setter and the Crop-A-Dile. The CAD is nice because it works easily but I find it bulky and has VERY limited reach. I love my Silent Setter because I can place an eyelet anywhere on a card or scrapbook page but it is difficult to use on non-aluminum eyelets. Not impossible, just takes more muscle.

ok Juliehrr...I am going to try it again tonight and see if it works. I was trying to twist it and it was not moving!
This is the instructions I read for the Instant Setter and I have a problem with twisting it. Since I am going to wait for another sale, psychkim, can you come back to share how you adventure goes tonight?

Must say tho that the Crop-a-Dial is AMAZING!
I can see where if someone were sitting down to use it (PCSS), they'd have difficulty because it does need the leverage and pressure of coming straight down to function proper? And, it will not work with hard brass eyelets. I think I mentioned that brass can be very hard to set no matter what tool you're using--I have some old brass ones that I finally just threw away because I hammered the daylights out of them and they refused. Grrrr!
So, I liked it for setting; I don't use the hole puncher attachments that came with it because I'd hafta twist my wrist to "drill" the hole.
As for the CAD--that thing chomps through chipboard, popsicle sticks, etc. like buttah! :cool: I love it for that!

I have both the silent setter and the crop a dile (I haven't tried either of them yet). Both are still in their original packaging (LOL!). Just like everyone else, "I just needed to have them". And when I need to set an eyelet, I still reach for my trusty hammer... Maybe after reading thru this thread, I'll break open those packages!!
crop -a -dile.Even though people say it's limited to where you can put an eyelet.it's mind over matter.you have to be creative when using it.If you are working on a 12x12 page you obviously can't reach to the center of the page so you have to take your photo or saying matt it first then punch the eyelets in it then adhere it to the page where you want it.then viola your eyelets are in the middle of the page where you need them to be.SO yes the crop -a dile is better than most people realize.

I have the PC silent setter and the Crop-a-dile. I have yet to get the CAD to set an eyelet without totally smashing the back of the eyelet. I like either the PC silent setter or my good old fashion hammer and eyelet setter that I got when I first started stamping. I have my own stamp space downstairs so you don't hear me hammering much..lol

I think it depends, I had the crop-a-dile, and got rid of it, it was just to much, the handle seems to have been made for a man as is wide, and with my hands it was to wide. Other than that it was great once you figure out what pressure to use.
I received a MM silent setter, and love it, and as mentioned before, I can set an eyelet anywhere. My 12yr dd has one too.
So, if you plan on setting eyelets in tin, think chipboard and really thick stuff, I would go with the crop a dile, if its just paper for cards or scrapbooks, I would get the MM Silent Setter
Well I have neither, but am anxiously awaiting my crop-a-dile that I ordered from HSN last weekend. I can't wait to try it on the thicker material. The silent setter sounds pretty interesting too.
I have both and could never get the Silent Setter to flatten my eyelets. The Crop-a-dile works like a charm, although, as stated, it is limited as to how far into a page/card one can place an eyelet. I still love it over the Silent Setter.
One other thing my MM instant setter does that my CAD does not do... set the MINI eyelets!!
BUT i was able to cut through 8 layers of SU! cardstock with almost no effort using my CAD - I HAD to get the CAD after almost demolishing a little chipboard album I had assembled then realized I needed the holes to add something to keep it all together... alas the MMIS does not do a very good job on chipboard.
bottom line - both have their quirks but complement each other very nicely, if you can have both that's best, IMHO
I have the Silent Setter and LOVE it - I very very rarely use the hammer anymore (if ever). And the Silent Setter works great through ribbon also. I have tried a friends Making Memories Instant Setter and it works well also, but is definitely not Silent - so if you are trying to stamp with sleeping kids, the Silent Setter is the way to go!
