Question for the Canadian ladies - which cardstock do you usually use for "card bases"? I usually use the Domtar from Staples, but they have changed their paper and its not the same weight anymore. Any other suggestions? If you happen to use Gina K Luxury cardstock (I see that her shipping to Canada is very reasonable if you spend over $50.00), which weight do you use for card bases - 80 lb. or 120 lb? Any suggestions would help! Thanks!
I get my cardstock from PTI http://www.papertreyink.com/ There shipping is expensive to Canada but I find that it is well worth the price. I usually wait until I need alot of cardstock before placing an order this way the cost of the products is more than the shipping. If you know someone else that needs good quality cardstock maybe they could split an order with you. I also order the 120lb pure luxury from Gina K but I only use that for stamping images and coloring with my Copic's. Good luck.
I use different white cardstock. For stamping on I used the SU whisper White. For layering I use one I purchase from Business Depot which is cardstock for cards which is cheap so 250 for 8$. For the cad base I use the Papertray one as it is thicker.
I used to order the PTI paper but with the shipping rates to Canada that they now have, the shipping was almost double the price of the paper. I've now switched to the Gina K paper ( have the 120 lb weight paper) and her shipping rates are amazing and it doesn't take too long to get here if I remember correctly (it's been awhile since I've ordered as I'll get about 10 packs all at once). I like her heavier weight paper for a card base as I tend to use a lot of layers and I find this much stronger. There's nothing worse than a card that flops when you go to display it because of the weight when using lower weight paper.
I'm with Jellybean74 - Gina's 120lb paper ROCKS! It's all I use now and it stands up to the gazzillion layers that attached themselves to my cards! Gina's shipping is incredibly reasonable and her customer service is top notch...not to mention what a sweetheart she is
I just ordered a bunch of Gina K heavy weight CS. Love it! For reference, it seems to be a bit heavier than the SU! colored CS and is significantly heavier than the Whisper White. It did take me almost a month to get it, BUT it wasn't the company's fault at all! They shipped it the day after I ordered it. It got hung up at customs. Obviously by some dingbat that doesn't know the importance of great CS at Christmas time. LOL! The main package had been opened and even the bags the paper itself was in had been split open. The least they could have done was use the ziplock at the end of the bag instead of splitting it down the side. Sheesh! (Sorry to those of you who may work in customs, but if you do and you're on this site, you'd know the sanctity of the paper, so my comment wouldn't be addressed to you anyway... ha ha)

If I want a white base I use Gina K, if I want a coloured base I use SU.
I do have some PTI white, but shipping is REALLY expensive, and unless I want to buy lots of stamps, or buttons or something as well, I won't buy their paper anymore. I really have to get a super larger order of PTI stuff together to make it worth it for me.
I find Gina K's paper, service, price, and shipping to all be top notch. I had the good fortune to meet her this fall as I was on my way home from a trip to Chicago. She was super sweet, and let me shop in her store even though she was officially closed. That kind of customer service, and the 5.00 shipping, will make me a Gina K fan for life.
I use PTI because I have a PO Box in the states and I'm minutes from the border... But I just bought a ream (250) of Neenah Solar Crest in 80 lb. (it's what a lot of Copic users use for colouring) and it's pretty good as a card base too! I see myself eating through that big pack of paper quickly!
Both of my options are expensive, though... PTI works out to $36 for 240 and it was $32 for 250 of the Neenah.. (US$)

I use Bazzill that I get from my local scrapbook store. I bought a couple pcs of Neenah for copics but I would just cut out my image from it and adhere to Bazzill.
I'm also in Canada, and still have a good supply of 110# cs that I got at Office Depot years ago. (I'm a hoarder, ha ha). Staples never did have the proper weight for me.
I have recently placed an order with both Papertrey Ink AND Gina K. I figured if I was going to get some really heavy weight stuff, I would try both. I have to say I'm thrilled with the Gina K paper, service and everything! I doubt I will order from PTI again anytime soon -- their product is great for sure, but the shipping is astronomical.
HTH!
Just bought card stock 110lb at Staples to-day. Be sure you get CARD stock not COVER stock. Cost about $16.00 for 500. I use it if I am doing more than one layer (it has the strength then) if it is to be a one layer card I use SU whisper white.
I really want to order some PTI stuff but the shipping is so off-putting. If any Newfoundlanders are reading this thread and want to go in on a PTI order, let me know! (we can pro-rate the shipping)
As for white CS I rarely use it as the base - I usually use the coloured SU CS and print my sentiment on the white CS from Staples and attach it inside. If I did want to use it as a base I would definitely have to buy some as the Staples stuff won't hold up.
I have to remember that my cards don't have to have a white base. I've been stamping our cards for over 20 years, and back when I started pretty papers and designs were hard to find. So you always used the white card and that way you could use the more expensive and 'rare' coloured cardstock as a panel and get 'two for one' out of it.
Funny the ruts we get into. Thanks for the reminder to use other colours.
... But I just bought a ream (250) of Neenah Solar Crest in 80 lb. (it's what a lot of Copic users use for colouring) and it's pretty good as a card base too! I see myself eating through that big pack of paper quickly!

Did you know that you can get a sample order from Neenah papers? I got 40 sheets of 130lb (19" x 12 1/2") for $12.95US (the cost of the delivery with FedEX). I don't know if you can do it more than once, but for that price, you get quite a bit of paper. And it so nice.
I just started ordering PTI this year and absolutely love it. It's especially good for those simple cards that don't have a lot of layering, as the CS is so nice & thick it looks great on its own. But yes, the shipping is crazy. I REALLY wish they'd introduce a 'free ship over x$' or 'flat rate over x$' to Canada. I am lucky in that I live close enough to the border that I can use a PO there, but it's not convenient... The price of the CS itself is reasonable.
I have yet to try Gina K but have heard so many wonderful things about her products and CS it's only a matter of time!

You used to be able to order 4 "samples" along with any order. So if you order a ream of paper, you can add on 4 "samples" for free.
Don't know if it still works this way or not, but it's worth a try. Once upon a time, they even had a free shipping code (heaven!) but I haven't seen that in years, LOL.
I use textured Bazzil cardstock from my local scrapbooking store for card bases. I also have a pack of kraft cardstock from Stampin' Up that I absolutely love, and a pack of lighter weight cheap white cardstock from Michael's that I use for stamping images and layering.

You lucky gal being so close to the border to have a PO Box. I'd probably get myself into too much trouble though ;)

When I learned how to stamp, I forgot how to cook and clean.
I just recently indulged in PTI paper. A friend of mine went down to the US to visit family and i had my package shipped to them using free shipping within the US and then my friend just brought it back with her. I love the paper but will likely wait until she is going across the border again b/c i'm too cheap to pay the shipping. I'm really interested in trying the GinaK paper now that everyone is having such a good experience. I have lots of her stamps but have never purchased the paper.
Currently I use the 110lb from staples and SU. Occasionally i use Prism b/c i love the texture of it. It's just really hard for me to find locally.
