Okay, this is my very first post...hopefully I'm doing this right. I've only been a member since 9/08! Until about a month ago, I wasn't quite sure what a thread or a post was. I think I've figured it out now.
I've been reading all these great tips on this thread, and have been taking all kinds of notes. Thank you everyone for all the great information!! I read the posts yesterday about Office Max, and this morning I was on a mission to find a set of 120 for $9.94. I found all the stores near me, called at least 5 of them. You really have to be persistant for them to check for you. I finally found one at the 5th store I called. I pretty much screamed at the poor lady on the phone! I'm a big bargain hunter and I would have to say that was the best bargain I every got!
I wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate all this great info!
One of these days I'll actually post one of my cards or a box/bag/book...but that would mean I'd have to use my camera and figure out how to get it here. One step at a time.
Kathy
God is so good to me...He's given me the passion to create and He provides the tools! Thank you Lord!
Hi Kathy,
Congrats on your awesome find! I know, I visited 3 of my Office Depots before I found the last set. Yes, persistence was key since they were not located in the usual areas. It was stashed in their inventory room. I'm thankful the associate went out of her way to check the back for me.
Have fun with your new treasures!
On the office max and prisma pencils and markers, are they the premeir pencils and the alcohol markers? Thanks for any info.
Sorry, the pencils I got yesterday were from Office Depot, not Office Max. They came in a box that says Prismacolor, not Prismacolor Premier. I compared them to ones I recently bought from Michael's and Jerry's Artarama and the pencils look exactly the same. The box I bought is probably older packaging, but I actually like it. It has 4 pullout trays that slide out and the box can be propped up to give you access to all 120 colors. I didn't look at the markers so I don't know about those. Hope you can find what you need!

Here are the hydrangeas we colored and the genie bags we made in my Prismacolor class tonight. At first my students thought the hydrangea was going to be difficult to color, but they all did a fabulous job. (These are photos of my finished products.)
Details and supplies list are provided in my gallery.
Wow. Been kind of slow here lately. I guess everyone is busy with their colored pencils....or just enjoying Summer.
Here's a new card I did. I used stonehenge paper for this one. If you have never heard of or tried this paper check out the link. Some colored pencil artists swear by the paper....of course I know of some who swear at it too..lol. But the paper is relatively inexpensive so it's worth trying it out.
I agree - it has been quiet. I've been making some cards and just blogging them. If I come up w/ something spectacular (like YOU Tim), I'll come back and link it here!
Hey, does anyone out there know a good source for ordering single pencils... I know there was a post awhile back~ but has anyone ordered any lately? Looking for a good deal~ I need to add to my collection.

I just bought a package yest of assorted stumps and tortillions. Am I going to be able to sand the tortillions like the stumps? They look like they would unravel, so to speak.

I've been getting mine from www.jerrysartarama.com. They sell single pencils and sets. Right now they're $1.05 per pencil. It's a lot cheaper than $1.99 at Michaels. The only drawback is paying for shipping.
On another note, (in case anyone is interested) I just picked up a "Rotating Organizer" for $2.50 at Target's $ bin. It has 1 round section in the middle and 6 sections on the outside. I'm going to use it to organize my pencils by color as others have suggested.

Thanks Kathy for the heads up on the organizer at Target - I'll have to check it out tomorrow. I have some of mine in a tin organized by color and the ones I've used on projects are in a recycled fruit can and I threw all of the other accessories including the fruit can in a big plastic ice cream bucket that has a handle. How's that's for being a good girl and going "green"???

Yes, I have been a busy body with my pencils. I've used nothing else on my digis since I got 'em. Lots of coloring and samples on my blog and gallery. Summer has definitely been busy and good!
Great card and coloring - wanna be like you when I grow up - LOL! I downloaded your cool cat for a summer card...will post a link when I get it done (thanks again for the freebie, inspiration and all of your tips too).

Thanks Alma! Oh..we have the digitals on our website now too. In case you were wondering, you probably weren't but what the heck.
Found a colored pencil artist the other night at a local gallery. Check out her website...makes you want to throw away your pencils. Nancy Jacey
or poke 'em in my eye!!!
WOW she is phenomenal!! thanks for sharing the link!!
great stuff shared here recently. We went to my in=laws last week for many, many days. The only thing I took was stamped images and my colored pencils. Forgot my baby oil so just prepped lots of images! *sgh*
HL is the only place here that sells them loose. I can't afford a big set . I just pick up 5 more green for my botanicals & some for more flowers so I could have more colors to shade with. M& Office Depot only sell them in tins. DH had a cow when he saw the prices!!:o
See if U can get someone to go in w/a order for U to split the cost of S& h. Iasked DD when she ordered some scratchboard to order some Prism colors I couldn't find @ HLfor me . This is the only way DH will let me get them since we're on a limmited budget:mad: grandmabear:cool:

Dick Blick is where I buy mine as well. There used to be an ebay seller that sold open stock for a really good price but it looks like she's not around anymore.
Here is the link again for the site that had the close-out sale - they are 58 cents, quick, friendly, great service...she has 72 colors remaining, if I counted right.
BTW, since someone asked - I did order from Woodsedge Gallery and was very, very pleased with the service, quick/low shipping, and packaging. Go for it - you cannot beat that price anywhere. Even as a starter set - if you got all 72 colors it's like $41 something.

I ordered from her too and was very happy with her service!
Hi all!! Here's another card/drawing I did on stonehenge paper. Don't forget to check out Stonehenge paper. It really is a cool paper!
Have a great weekend everyone!!
Tim
I love your amazing Dino drawing! I also clicked on your link for the paper and I was in awe of all the art work. Especially the last one by Arlene Steinberg (drawing of marbles)..It looks like a photograph.
Have a great weekend too!
I tried using a 50% coupon at Michaels to get a 120 set of Prismacolor Colored Pencils. Still came out to $101 with tax even with the discount. So I put it back on the shelf and instead bid on ebay and got a set for $65. I went to Chicago this weekend and my sister gave me one she bought on clearance at Office Depot. So I am selling the one I bought on ebay on the buy/sell/trade forum for what I bought it for. Still a good deal I think, for those who do not have an Office Depot near you or weren't able to find one on clearance!
I know all about the Michaels/Prismacolor Pencils "situation" all too well!:(
YEARS ago, I tired to get mine with a 50% coupon ( and even a 40%) and I could NEVER use it! It was always conveniently either "On Sale" or when I got all the way up to the register, it would come up as "PROMO," which, they told me, meant I still could not use the coupon on because PROMO meant is was on sale as a store special! What a gimmick!
This was all before the Prismacolor and Gamsol "craze."
I ended up having to pay $126 for the set of 120 pencils!
They knew they had me "over a barrel." They were the only store in the area that had the set and all the artist supply stores had the set for WAY HIGHER!
I am happy for all of you getting such great deals but every time I read about it, all those "memories" come back to mind. LOL! At least, I "comfort" myself by saying that I have been using my set for well over 10 years! LOL!

Make sure your B&W photo is printed on matte paper. If it's glossy, spray with a matte fixative first. Then you simply color in the areas you want to color. Make sure the tip is not too sharp - dull it on paper first if need be. Then spray with matte fixative to protect it. You can also make the colors more vibrant by recoloring after spraying with matte fixative with as many layers as you want till you get the desired results. My prisma pencil collection got started because of a photography class I was taking a few years ago at the local community college. We worked in all B&W photos and the instructor taught us how to do this. You can also use q-tips and crayola markers to color B&W photos. No fancy B&W photo coloring kits for me!

It took me 3 days to read all 26 pages of
this thread
I ordered from this link (well, not sure if it was this one or from one of the other 25 pages ;)) and got my pencils in 3 days. Her service is amazing.
They were very well packaged and arrived super fast!
I was able to pick up some of the colors I was missing.
I ordered from her too and got mine in 2 days. Not only is the close out price amazing, the care she takes in the packaging of even a small order is remarkable too. It cost her more to ship than he charged me. I would highly recommend her! Thanks so much for the referral Dina K.

I posted this before but since it's up for discussion again I'll post it again...lol. Here is my home made pencil holder made with PVC pipe.. Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
I group by color too....and keep the odd ones together like black, white and blenders.
I just checked out your idea and it's great! thanks.
Dick Blick has a sale going on, save $5-$40 depending on how much you spend, plus $5.95 shipping & free shipping on orders >$200. I ordered the 132 pencil set, and it comes with a free "binder" that holds 90 pencils. Plus I ordered a leather "binder" that holds 120, and the Prisma pencils sharpener and the total came to just over $135 including shipping!!!! That's cheaper than I could get at Michaels for the 120 tin w/the 40% disc coupon. I think this was a really good deal! www.dickblick.com

I'm going to be making candles soon using Prisma pencils on tissue paper. I'm sure it requires a light touch with many layers  I've made candles in the past using my printer to print onto tissue paper, just wondering if anyone has tried the technique stated above and has any tips or tricks to offer???

Did anyone get an extra box of the prismacolor pencils at Office Depot when they were on clearance? I checked mine and they didnt have it. I have the 48 and 12 color sets, but Id like the bigger set if possible!
