One of the most popular games in Las Vegas is Blackjack (probably because even non-gamblers like me can play it and occasionally win a hand.) So, will you join me at the VSN Blackjack table?
Blackjack is a very old card old game, dating back more than 400 years, when a form of it was played in Spain. Blackjack is also known as �21�, because each player tries to amass a hand of cards that add up to 21. The winner is the person who comes closest to 21 without going over that amount (22 or above means you've lost � or you�re busted, in Vegas lingo).
The name Blackjack comes from a form of the game where a bonus was awarded if the player reached 21 with the Ace of Spades (worth 11 points) and a black (spades or clubs) Jack card (worth 10 points). However, you can also win the game by collecting a hand full of twos, threes and fours, as long as they add up to 21.
For this VSN challenge, we're going to play Blackjack by giving a point value to elements used in a card (consult the following list). Deal your own �hand� by picking which elements you want to use, getting as close to 21 as you can without going over. In the game of Blackjack, there is no limit to how many playing cards you can take, so there�s no limit to how many of each element you can use in this challenge, as long as you keep the total score at 21 or below.
Points:
1 point for each layer in the card. 3 points for each different patterned paper (yes, you get 1 point if it's a layer plus 3 points if it's patterned.) 5 points for each different stamp you use. (If you use the same stamp more than once, it only counts as 5 points) 2 points for each ribbon 1 point for each hard embellishment (brads, eyelets, charms, rhinestones, beads, clips, etc. SO, a hairpin with four beads on it counts as 5 points).
You can use any of the following elements, but they don't affect points
Coloring mediums, different colors of inks.
You MUST include a listing of your points and total them up in your description when you upload your card.
UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EDT ON MONDAY, April 27
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge.
3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword (MAY09MINIVSN1) when uploading your image.
Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos. It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in the chat thread just in case the gallery is being testy.

My sample, and how it adds up to 21:
2 stamps (x 5 points each) = 10 points
3 layers (yellow base, flowered layer, and image layer. Scalloped piece runs alongside image and is the same layer) 3 layers x 1 pt = 3 points
2 patterned papers (flowered and dotted) x 3 points each = 6 points
2 hard embellies (brads) x 1 pt each = 2 points. 10+3+6+2 = 21
Question: if we make our own patterned paper using a stamp and cardstock, does that count as 3 points also?
If you're using a stamp -- it's 5 points. (You can use the same stamp repeatedly, you get 5 points for each different stamp.) And if it's used as layer, add another point. Does that make sense?

Thanks - I was wondering if you got the 3 points for patterned paper on top of 5 for a different stamp... pardon, but it's 7 a.m. here.
