Wood Mounts in the MISTI

by Dina Kowal

Use blocks to create a corner jig for your stamp positioner.

Supplies

  • Stamp positioner (MISTI used here)
  • Duplo blocks - 4 rectangles, 2 squares
  • Wood mounted stamp (All Night Media 780J Classic Pooh used for demo - discontinued)
  • Cardstock

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

Using Duplo blocks, create a right corner with two rectangles and a square.

  2. Add a second layer of blocks, beginning with the square, to alternate the blocks and give the corner piece more stability.

  3. Step 2

Position the jig tightly into the corner of the stamp positioner.

  4. Step 3

Lay a wood mounted stamp onto a cardstock panel where you want it to be stamped. Slide the cardstock under the jig until the corner of the stamp is aligned with the inner corner of the jig. Secure the cardstock in place with a magnet or tape.

  5. Step 4

Ink the stamp and realign the corner with the jig, pressing straight down onto the cardstock. Reink and restamp as needed.

  6. Step 5

When you are satisfied with the stamped image, use it to complete a card or other project.

This is great going to have to give this a try as I have wooden mounted stamps that I really like too. Now on the hunt for the Duplo building blocks, lol!

Thank You! I love my Misti but have soooo many wood block stamps collected over the yrs. Needed to find a way to use them there too. You are "da bestest" Hugs

Oh, Dina, I'm so glad you posted this! I am in the process of removing many (but not all) of my rubber stamps from their blocks. Now I feel more comfortable about keeping some cherished ones on wood (especially when they are valuable and have the colored images on them). Thanks and hugs!

Any suggestions on using wood-mounted stamps with the Stampin' Up! Stamparatus?

What a great tutorial and creative way to use wooden backed stamps. You are so clever! Thank you.

good afternoon, i was having the same problem with blocked stamps, but someone showed me to put the block in the microwave for 10 to 15 seconds, remove from the block and use on the Misti. when done with the stamp put on a sheet of plastic and save. I use the laminating pouch plastic to protect my stamps and put them in clear envelopes. hope this helps someone.

Thank you, Jean! That does work. I have unmounted most of my stamps, but I have a collection of rare and discontinued stamps I don't want to unmount. I use this method for those ones.

Hi Dina! I just watched your vid on using wood mounted stamps using the MISTI. I am pretty certain I missed (not MISTID) :) something. Okay, heres my goofy question: how does the MISTI help? Is this simply a cool way to build a stamp positioner? Im definitely in the remedial class of all things beyond Stamps 101, so please forgive my ignorance. Btw. I would say Im your #1 fan, but I see you have a vast, loyal following& rightly so! Youre definitely a gifted artist and an all-around Craft Genius!

Hey there! When the MISTI came out there was a general panic that it could only accommodate unmounted stamps and everything needed to be removed from the wood. The Duplo block idea is basically an alternate to the Stamp-a-ma-jig if you're familiar with that tool and you can use it apart from the MISTI as well - the MISTI just gives it a solid corner to butt up against so that it doesn't move, and the magnets are just one more way to keep things in place. Hope that makes sense! smile Thanks for your kind words!

Brilliant! I have so many wood mounted stamps that I hardly use any more, let the creativity begin. Thanks, Christy

Many thanks, Dina. The notion of peeling the rubber from hundreds of stamps,,,,UGH! You saved me from that drudgery!

So far, the least expensive Duplo blocks are at Walmart for $35,plus tax and shipping, which seems an insult when added to the cost of the Misti. HOWSOMEVER, the stamp removed from the block doesn't always hold tight to the Misti, so there's that.....I'm off to buy my duplo blocks. I HATED peeling stamps from their blocks after nuking them, difficult and messy! There now $35 for the blocks seems minor.

Unity has many Pooh stamps for sale. This is a fun idea for wood block stamps. I had removed all of mine and placed them on double adhesive.

Good tutorial, Dina! Stamping for 30+ years, at least half of my stamps are wood mounted. I refuse to pull them apart in order to use them on the Misti; doing so takes the value down to almost nothing, not to mention the tossing of some lovely maple blocks. Thanks for posting this.

Thank you for this! I had been stewing about what to use in a corner, and you have the perfect answer.

I love this. I will look for blocks at garage sales. I don't have toys or any little ones around here.

Using the blocks in a corner is duplicating the method of using stamps in a simple tool called a Stamp Positioner. It’s an acrylic 90° corner with a see-through plastic piece you stamp a faint image of your stamp, place where you want it, then using only the corner piece to stamp your image. This is a good idea…we have more Lego blocks than stamp positioners!
