My husband has a lot of blooming cactus, which just so happens to be the name of the stamp I used. I was inspired by all the beautiful blooms.
Here's what I did:
Stamped the image twice on water color paper. Colored both using the prisma pencil w/gamasol technique. Cut out parts of the one cactus so I could pop them up. I did this a little different, instead of popping the whole piece up, I glued the bottom edge down on a couple of the cut outs and then popped the top edge up giving it dimension so to speak. You'd really have to see it in person, because it looks really cool!... Like a real cactus only without the stickers. Believe me, I know about the stickers! LOL
I sponged the edges with distress ink and layered this on a light purple linen cs that I popped up on a piece of dp that I ran through the cb using diamonds in the rough. I also sponged the diamonds to make them stand out a little bit more. Put this on a colored card....Done.
Hope you enjoyed viewing it.......and for that.....TFL :0)

Beautiful job....even if you used pink! One of these days I am going to break down and get me some of them prisma colors.

I like the cuttlebug embossing you used! I think it gives the card a southwestern feel. Beautiful coloring. I have used the technique you described for popping one part of an image and then glueing part of it down many times. You are right, it is a really cool effect, especially on your cactus here!! Great job!
