I had seen a cute little sailboat in an old magazine that I wanted to see if I could recreate. I had a nice blue and white stripe patterned paper that I thought looked kind of nautical, so I put the two together, added white grosgrain ribbon, and I really liked the way it turned out. This kind of card can be used for a baby, or a young boy, bon voyage, birthday, all kinds of things!
I started with 3 scraps...red, blue, and brown. I cut the red and blue into triangles shaped like sails, and then punched a half circle with the brown. I also cut a little piece of red for the flag on top. I inked them slightly with their respective colors, just for dimension.
I then took some aqua cardstock strips and cut one side with a decorative edged scissor. I then chalked each one with a cotton ball and a darker blue-green color chalk at the bottom of each piece, going lighter as I went up. I chalked the sky on a piece of white cardstock with a cotton ball and light blue chalk, avoiding the edges of the cardstock. I then took a pencil eraser and erased some of the chalk for clouds. I then glued down one piece of "water" about 1/3 of the way up on the white cardstock. I then glued the half circle for the boat on top of that piece, then glued the other to pieces one over the other to simulate the look of waves. With the white Signo pen, I faux stitched all the colored cardstock pieces. I mounted that on blue cardstock, adhered the patterned paper and white ribbon to a white card, then added the image block.
