For this project, I started out by painting the box with acrylic paints. The first layer was done in a pretty green and then layered with an off-white acrylic. I sort of dry brushed the white paint and then quickly wiped it off with a dry paper towel, so that the green really came through. I also dry-brushed a little gray paint in the corners and edges for more depth and aging.
The bird stamp was colored with Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol, and cut out. It's a large stamp, measuring about 4.5 inches from beak to tail, so it was a perfect size for my book box. The center paper was a RAK from a friend and I decided to trim the edges with my pinking scissors and run my tracing wheel around all the edges. I lined the inside of the box with the white and green patterned paper.

What a beautiful collage of mediums. I've seen these wooden book boxes and I've always wondered what you could do with them, now I know! Thank you for the pic and the info.
