Dream Machine FS1007

Photo Details
Poster: bubblestx4

I was drawn to Abigail101 aka Lisa's Moody Mixed Media backgrounds (although she also has some more plain and simple offerings in her gallery, too) I Chose this Heard a Strange Noise 2 card.

Things I Changed: Copper wreath to Metallic cogs & gears, Different techniques for building my bg, Different sentiment, No Bugs or Beetles . . .

I started with a piece of black cardstock, dragging 3 colors of acrylic paint over the panel with the edge of an old gift card. Once that was dry, I stenciled some mechanical images with Encore Metallic Blue Ink. I have only worked with Angelina Fibers on plain cardstock but took a Leap of Faith and sprinkled some over the paint encrusted panel, covered with parchment paper and pressed with my iron. Whew - they adhered beautifully to the paint creating a shimmery spider web of ultra fine fibers. (and my iron survived unscathed!)

My brother sells and installs weird & wonderful machines at small manufacturing plants that do all kinds of amazing things. . . . so, I cut some cogs & gears from metallic cardstock and the large fly wheel from some textured charcoal. Turns out the Charcoal was not a good choice of color, so I found some ANCIENT Lustre Creme and smeared on some pewter and copper to give this the more aged metallic look I wanted. I finished with my own sentiment partially die & fussy cut and partially computer generated. The computer printed section was fussy cut with a deckle-edged scissors then edged with gold 3-D paint and framed with royal blue metallic cardstock.

This card exceeded my wildest expectations!

What a fantastic background for your card. The Angelina Fibers are truly inspired! It gives such an incredible, shimmery texture that looks like a metallic spider web. Using metallic cogs and gears instead of a wreath was a brilliant creative choice—it really leans into that steampunk aesthetic. It’s wonderful that your brother’s work served as such a perfect inspiration for this piece.

Linda, this is such a wonderful mixed media card, the bg looks fantastic with the fibers and gears and the fly wheel certainly has an aged metallic look!

This is such an interesting card, Linda! I love the BG you created with the paint and use of fibers (which I've not familiar with)! The gears are great and I like what you did with the fly wheel!

Your layered mechanical background with the acrylic paint striations, metallic blue stenciling, and the shimmery Angelina fibers creates such an intense industrial energy, and the way you built the aged metallic effect on the gears and fly wheel adds a rugged depth that pairs perfectly with your bold custom sentiment for a striking steampunk design.
