My Desmond is making his theatrical debut tonight as Squirt in Finding Nemo the Musical. So naturally I had to make him a card. Today's MIX challenge is "Illusion" and what's a better illusion that the pool water made with the pool water stencil. I love this stencil so much.
The layout was inspired by this week's sketch. By the time I finished, it didn't really look like the sketch, but I tagged it anyway because I really did use the sketch in my head. I turned it and decided that the circle would be the circle of fish. I didn't realize how big the circle of fish was. In my head it fit perfectly in the circle. Then the strip across the card is the turtles. The sentiment strip is rotated with the whole card. Can you see it?

Oh, I love the combination of fish and turtles. They remind me of a little glass one my dad had on the mantelpiece in his study.

I realised just recently when DH wanted to rewatch Ice Age that we have never seen Finding Nemo either, so that's now on my watch list.

Fintastic circle of fish and that stencil looks fabulous as a background for them and the cute turtles. Tell Desmond “break a leg” (if that’s a theatrical thing that’s carried over the pond - if not, don’t say it or he’ll wonder what the heck got into you!). Hope he enjoys his time on stage!

Such a joyful and clever scene. The pool‑water illusion gives everything a sense of movement, and the circle of fish creates a wonderful focal swirl around the turtles. The rotated sketch elements come together so naturally, and the bright, glossy details make the whole card feel alive. A perfect way to celebrate Squirt’s big debut.

Oh, what a super card! The water AND school of fish are so illusionary I want to stare at it forever, but Desmond is still the fantastic focal point. Love it!

This is such a fun card! The pool water stencil is fabulous...I had not yet seen it.
It has taken me nearly a week to get back into the gallery to make comments on my sketch. Your story of how this came to be, how it was inspired by the sketch, made me smile. I love to see where creativity takes people.
