 | | "Christmas in July" is a common cardmaking theme during the month of July. If we haven't already started our Christmas stash by July, many of us feel July is a "must do" month to start making Christmas cards in order to have enough finished without frenzy setting in later in the fall because time has run away from us and we'll never get it all done! Since I saw numerous challenges involving Christmas cards throughout July, I became curious what inspired the theme "Christmas in July." If you are interested as well, see my blog to see what I found. The link is at the very bottom of this description.
Knowing I wanted to do a Christmas card, I started there for challenge inspiration, moving on to other challenges for other ideas to incorporate while playing my personal Challenge Catch-up cardmaking. In all, I was able to incorporate 14 old challenges to fit my card. All my research led me to case a card from Luci Kirschbaum's Covid Christmas card kit I got last year and modified it to fit my SCS challenges. See the challenge list below:
1) CC854 - Color Challenge/ Eating Golden Cherries in the Shade/ Dessert: Christmas in July - 7/27/21. Challenge colors: Gold, Cherry Cobbler, and Shaded Spruce. My card uses the colors in the challenge, but different shades. I used: Metallic Copper (no gold), Real Red, and Garden Green.
2) AOCC21 - All Occasions Card Challenge/ July - 7/1/21. One for my Christmas card goals for July.
3) USEIT2021 - Use It Challenge/ July 2021 - 7/1/21. Old: I'm using old, dusty items: retired SU border punch Pinking Hearts, plus the Itty Bitty Christmas sentiments, and a piece of the retired Brightly Gleaming Specialty dsp.
4) CCC21JUN - Christmas Card Challenge--June 2021/ Shimmer or Shine! - 6/1/21. Create a card with shimmer and shine. I've lots of copper shimmer and shine on my card.
5) FS737 - Featured Stamper Challenge/ Is She a Stamping Author? aka stampingwriter/ Sandy - 3/21/21. I chose this card: Smacked Snowflakes!. Sandy's snowflakes panel layout sparked ideas for my card. I kept the Christmas theme and snowflakes, though mine are in the form of a cascading copper die-cut. I elaborated on her left side panel layout with a border panel edging and copper strip, plus I changed colors entirely. I also added a sentiment to the card front.
6) MMTPT657 - Teapot Challenge/ I Love Red - 2/23/21. Playing challenge catch-up, my card uses red as required by the challenge with a theme of anything goes...so, mine's Christmas.
7) F4A569 - Free 4 All Challenge/ All About YOU - 1/15/21. Though Christmas cards are being made more and more in a wide variety of colors, I still love a red and green traditional Christmas cards. I also love them with a sparkly sheen added with foil papers, embellishments, and glitter, etc.
SCSCCJAN21 - Fan Club Monthly Christmas Card Challenge/ January Sketch - 1/1/21. I have added a horizontal ribbon in the upper rectangle position and move a sentiment rectangular fishtail flag to the lower right.
9) MIX405 - Mix-Ability Challenge/ Thanks for the Compliment - 10/30/20. Create a card featuring complimentary colors. My color opposites are red & green. Mediums: stamping ink and ribbon fabric.
10) ABC13J10 - Alphabet Challenge--Round 13/ Letter J - 6/3/20. My Letter J = Joy.
11) S2S19LL - Stamp 2 Save (aka Stamp 2 Support One Another)/ Getting Lacey - 9/26/19. Challenge: use something on your lacy on your card. My card uses a die-cut of a lacy cascade of snowflakes.
12) DINSP0920 - Fan Club Monthly Theme--September 2020/A Walk Outside/ Inspiration Challenge - 9/15/20. I knew I wanted to do a Christmas card, but the reds, greens and coppery tree trunk in the photo gave me inspiration for my card colors along with the Color Challenge.
13) CAS517 - Clean & Simple Challenge/ It's Cold - 1/21/19. Use at least one elements for each letter in the word COLD on your card. C=copper cs; O=overlay (dsp overlays punched edging/ copper strip overlays dsp and white cs); L=lacy (lacy snowflake die), layers; D=die-cuts.
14) IC685 - Inspiration Challenge/ {ETSY Birdhouses} - 1/19/19. Here is my inspiration: A Copper, Green & Red Birdhouse. I was inspired by the lovely colors.
Ingredients: Stampin Up products: Cardstock--Garden Green, Real Red, Whisper White, Copper Foil. Patterned paper--Brightly Gleaming Specialty dsp. Stamps--Itty Bitty Christmas. Dies--Christmas Layers. Ink--Mossy Meadow. Punch--Pinking Hearts Border (ret.). Ribbon--3/8" Red Double-Stitched Satin. Other: Recollection Bitty Snowflake punch.
