This week's Featured Stamper is Sandy (stampingwriter) and she has a wonderfully Gallery. I have been on a bird binge lately, so I was naturally attracted to several of her cards with birds. I chose this one because of the sentiment which inspired me to use blue on my card: Impossibly musical by stampingwriter at Splitcoaststampers
While I was constructing the card in my head, the Teapot Tuesday challenge was posted: Black and white with a pop of color. Perfect as I was headed in the direction and that clarified my final design, which is the top card.
I dry embossed a white panel and because I wanted something to ground the flower images, I cut a narrow channel for the black matting to show through. It mostly got covered, but it peeks through here and there. The flowers are a layered stamp and I so so wanted to color the centers, but left them white as I did the leaves to go with the theme. I had intended to color in the birds with black so they would be a silhouette like Sandy's card, but I really love the details on these stamps so I went with the black and white instead. This card will be going to one of our Tea Party celebrants, Carol, who is being treated for pancreatic cancer. So far, the news is good and the treatments are working. Yay! A wonderful milestone to celebrate.
But the Tea Party is also for her mother, who recently turned 99! Another great reason to celebrate. Since it's a mother/daughter team, I thought I would make similar cards. Because of COVID restrictions, Dee was unable to create her annual window decorations. If you haven't seen them, check them out (there's a link on the forum page), they are fabulous. Since Carol loves green and her window paintings were mostly winter scenes, I pulled out my favorite tree stamps for the background. I had an Alcohol Ink bg in my stash, which I stamped and embossed with the birds. I realized as I was finishing this that it reminded me of Polly's (Peeps321) card for Dee which is probably what gave me the idea to do the green birds. For once I had been prescient enough to cut the the birds from the center of the AI panel, so I was able to use the same AI panel for the framing which finished it off nicely.
Congratulations Sandy on being this week's Featured Stamper. You have a wonderful and fun Gallery. I hope the cards you inspired me to make will bring some joy to Carol and Dee. And, everyone else, if you haven't seen Sandy's card, Miss W Competition go check it out and read the story. It's sure to leave you with a smile. Both of these cards are fabulous! I love the bold colors of the green and blue birds and that they match the background of Dee’s card, and that color blue of the flowers on Carol’s card is so pretty and striking against the black and white.

Way to double up with the challenges. You probably know I am a bird lover, too, so guess what? I love both your cards and I am sure the recipients will, also. Beautiful work, as always.

I've always loved your little warblers, Debbie - and they look great colored and not in these two cards! Love the embossing and pretty flowers on the first one, and the incredible detail on the trees (both foreground and background) on the second one!

These cards are beautiful for Dee and Carol, the birds are great in white with the blue floral diagonal very elegant, and the second card with the trees in the background surrounded by your pretty green birds is really special!! Green is the color of hope and I love you've added a green frame too, They will love your pretty cards, I loved to read how you've combined the challenges and how you were inspired!!

Debbie, some totally fab use of birds and backgrounds. Both are great, but that one on the right totally inspires me. I may be casing it one day. Really well done cases! Hugz

Your birds are delightful and enchanting. I really like the swag of blue flowers on the embossed background, and the contrast of the uncoloured birds. The ones stamped on the AI background are super, and I laughed when I read about your prescience. I always cut/stamp as close to the edge as possible to save as much as possible of a piece, so I rarely end up able to frame either.
