A friend asked me to make her some Sympathy cards so I made these and a few more and I am sending them off tomorrow. I hope we don't need a lot more Sympathy cards during this season.
My oldest daughter found a poem she told me was written in 1869 after a Pandemic and the reprinted again in 1919 after the Spanish Flu. Turns out it was written this year and I guess the poet was envisioning what it would be like in the end. I wanted to share it.
Written by Kathleen O'Mara
And people stayed home
And read books
And listened
And they rested
And did exercises
And made art and played
And learned new ways of being
And stopped and listened
more deeply
Someone meditated, someone prayed
Someone met their shadow
And people began to think
differently
And people healed.
And in the absence of people who
lived in ignorant ways
Dangerous, meaningless and heartless,
The earth also began to heal
And when the danger ended and
People found themselves
They grieved for the dead
And made new choices
And dreamed of new visions
And created new ways of living
And completely healed the earth
Just as they were healed.
Isn't it lovely and appropriate?

Oh, Nancy, that sentiment you used is so very cool. Thank you also for sharing that poem. Wonderful sympathy cards, and I hope we won't need a lot either.
