This card was made as a Design Team card for Try Stampin' on Tuesday Sketch Challenge #423 with the optional challenge of using plaids or checks.
It turns out I don't have very many plaid or check designer papers, and no stamps that are plaid or checks! Obviously an oversight I need to correct!!! However, a friend is moving and she gave me all her scrapbooking supplies, which included a mat stack of coordinating papers and cardstock! I found this nice green plaid and matching dark green cardstock in the stack that matches the Stampin' Up! (SU) color "Garden Green" almost perfectly. The card was made using all papers and cardstock from this mat, except for the plain white, which is SU Whisper White Thick Cardstock.
I started by cutting the lovely Bazzil-like green cardstock to 4-1/4"x 5-1/2" as my base, then gluing the 4"x 5-1/4" light green plaid paper to it as the background. The vertical white strip was stamped with the same dripping icing stamp using SU Garden Green ink, then the icing was hand colored using a Copie #G43 (Pistachio) marker.
The large white square was sized at 2-3/4" to comfortably fit the cake on it's cake stand. The cake, cake stand and candles were stamped on the thicker white cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then scanned on my Brother ScanNCut CM350 and cut with a 0.04" white border. I then cut two more duplicate cakes and stands so that I could layer all three cutouts to raise them up for a 3D effect. Only one set of candles were cut out. The cake and stand were both hand colored with the same green Copic marker I had used for the icing.
I used a craft sponge to brush the edges of the white square with the same dark green ink pad I had used to stamp the drippy iced cakes. After gluing the cake, stand and icing onto the white square, I matted the square with the same dark green cardstock as the card base. This matted cake square was attached to the card front using adhesive foam tape carefully located so that no tape would cover the dark green horizontal strip (to avoid "bumpiness" where there would be extra layers of the thick green cardstock).
I think this card will make an excellent birthday card for a guy, but it is really gender-less, so could work for just about anyone! I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5" since aside from cutting out the cake and stand, creating it was just a matter of cutting rectangles on a trimmer.
