Welcome to Christmas in July! The Color Challenge team has chosen a theme for this month. It's optional, of course, so if you don't want to make a Christmas card with this week's colors, we'd love to see your non-Christmas creations, too.
I have the pleasure of being your hostess this week, and I've chosen Cherry Cobbler, Garden Green and Gold. Can you think of a more traditional or more predictable color combo from this traditional girl? The dessert option is stars.
This card ended up *NOTHING* like I envisioned, due to an oops that could only be remedied by cutting out the flower from the watercolor cardstock.
I started by stamping the poinsettia with VersaMark ink and gold heat embossing. First mistake: I masked the flower so I could add a few leaves, stamped them in VersaMark, removed the mask and sprinkled with embossing powder. Are you surprised that the embossing powder stuck to the flower where it had picked up some of the adhesive from the masking paper? I sure was! I used a soft, dry brush to remove the excess powder, and it turned out OK. If I ever try this again, I'll sprinkle the embossing powder over the leaves BEFORE removing the masking paper!
I used reinkers and an aqua-brush to paint the flower. I have done this only once or twice before, usually opting for actual watercolors. But oh my! I loved the process and the result. I will be doing this a lot more from now on!
Second mistake: Some green ink transferred to the heel of my hand, and I didn't realize it. It transferred to the already stamped greeting on the same piece of watercolor paper. Try as I might to remedy this problem, the best solution was to cut the flower out.
So plan B, a simple layout with the flower glued onto the card base and a sprinkling of stars cut from gold foil paper.
Thanks for stopping by, and please play along with us this week!

Wowzer, this turned out so beautiful Barbara! Love the deep shadows you were able to get using the ink from the reinkers! Great job coming up with plan B, the Cherry Cobbler background with the stars is so lovely!

Beautiful serendipity, Barbara! I love the dark and light tones you achieved with your watercoloring, which is so lovely with the gold embossing! The strip of vanilla cs and the sprinkling of gold stars defines the beauty and elegance of this gorgeous Christmas card.
