A Fintastic Birthday
Added to Favorite

Photo Details
Poster: donnaks

This card was made for Try Stampin' on Tuesday Sketch Challenge #413, with the optional theme of "Favorites in Nature".

Since I love underwater card, and mermaids, I went all the way back to 2004 in my wood-mounted stamp collection to find the Stampin' Up! (SU) retired set called "Fintastic". Using my stamp positioner (in case I needed to stamp her a second time) I stamped the mermaid using Memento black ink onto SU Whisper White Thick cardstock. I used the thicker cardstock because I knew I was going to fussy cut her out and mount her on foam tape, so wanted a stiffer cardstock.

The mermaid was hand colored using Copics markers, then cut out by hand. I set her aside to work on the watery background next.

The background was created by gluing strips of wavy shades of blue paper unto a 4"x 5-1/4" of SU Island Indigo cardstock, then SU Crumb Cake and Kraft cardstock for "sand" created on my Brother ScanNCut. Then running the entire panel through my Big Shot inside the SU "Seaside" embossing folder to create a flowing water look.

Before mounting the adhesive backed acetate on the entire front of the main panel, I used Stazon black ink to stamp the "You're Fintastic" sentiment on the acetate.

The final step was to fussy cut the mermaid out, then mount on the front of the card with adhesive foam tape. As a final touch, I put Ranger Glossy Accents liquid on all the bubbles around the mermaid, and on the clam's eyes.

I think this card would be nice to send to a little girl for her birthday, or any lady for a special occasion (thank you, congratulations, etc).

I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5". Instead of using a digital cutting machine to create the wavy background, one could instead use the wavy die from SU "Swirly Scribbles" thinlits die set.
