With three grand-daughters, I'm always in need of a cute card for their birthdays, so when I saw the sketch, I right away thought of 3 little mermaids all stacked up. I used the "bubbles" paper from the Stampin' Up! (SU) Myths & Magic specialty paper for the main panel background, and die cut the fish scales from holiday glitter paper using the SU "Striped Scallop" dies. I trimmed the die cut so I had three horizontal rows of three scales, and glued them to the card base.
The mermaids were cut from another sheet of that same specialty paper using my digital cutter. There is only one mermaid matching die in the SU matching die set, so I cut all three digitally with a .04" border. The center mermaid was tough to cut out between her arm and tail, so I fussy cut that area out by hand. The mermaids all have three stacked die-cuts glued beneath them to raise them off the card surface. They were attached to the card with Scor-Tape.
I wanted a sea-themed sentiment, so went to SU's retired "By the Tide" stamp set for the coral clump. I stamped it three times using SU Calypso Coral ink on Calypso Coral cardstock using my Stamp-a-ratus to get a solid dark image, then without taking my paper or stamp out of the device, I cleaned the stamp, and re-inked it with Versamark three times. I then sprinkled Ranger's Polysparkle Embossing Powder, then set it with my heat tool. I wanted the coral to sparkle like the scales and mermaids.
I fussy cut the coral clump out with my paper snips, then mounted it onto the card with LOTS of adhesive foam strips (the heat embossed shape tended to curl unless i attached it all around the edges and center).
The sentiment is from SU "Sassy Salutations". I stamped it with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then sponged it with SU Tranquil Tide ink. Because the coral shape was heat embossed, and might cause problems trying to stick the sentiment to it, I liberally used Scor-Tape on the back of the sentiment to ensure it adhered well.
I am rating the difficulty level at a "4" because of the need to either fussy cut or digitally cut out the mermaids. There are several steps in assembling the card, so that contributes to the difficulty as well. Not sure which of the three grand-daughters will be the lucky one to receive this card - I'm sure all three would love it.
