I was inspired for my card by JAI Design Team members Rochelle and Nikki. I combined elements of both great designers' cards to create an anniversary card. I particularly liked Nikki's angled panel, and Rochelle's hand colored roses, bold sentiment, and strip of "fence. behind her main floral element.
My card base is Stampin' Up Wild Wasbsi cut 5-1/2"x 8-1/2" folded in half. The main front panel is a piece of 5-1/4" x 4" Whisper White cardstock that I ran through my Big Shot using the We R Memories Whimsy embossing folder. This was glued to the card base using Tombow.
The angled element consists of a Whisper White panel cut at an angle on two sides, matted by a piece of Melon Mambo cut slightly larger. I created the scalloped edges using the scalloped edge die from Sizzix's Stephanie Barnard's Regal Flip-Its Card die set. These were glued together, then mounted on the embossed panel using adhesive foam strips to give added depth to the card.
The rose was stamped on watercolor paper using Stazon Jet Black ink (being alcohol ink, it wouldn't run when I used watercolors to paint it). I used my SU Aqua Painter (brush pen with a water reservoir) to first color the shadows with Melon Mambo, then colored in the light reflecting petal surfaces with SU Pretty in Pink. The leaves and stem shadows were painted with Wild Wasabi, and the lighter areas with Pear Pizzaz ink.
I hand cut the rose using a small pair of paper snips, and then liberally covered the back of the rose with adhesive foam strips. I used a lot of foam since the watercolor paper is not very substantial, and needed all the support it could get to stay nice looking on the card front.
Finally, I stamped the anniversary sentiment using Stazon ink using my MISTI to over-stamp three times for a solid impression on Whisper White cardstock. I then used a Spellbinders "Labels Four" die to cut out the sentiment. Using a craft sponge, I softly edges the sentiment panel with Melon Mambo ink. It was mounted by putting adhesive foam strips on the right back of the diecut, and a Mini Glue Dot on the left so that the raised height of the sentiment would be leve with the scalloped panel.
The hardest part of the card was creating the angled element - which was one of my key inspirational goals. I simply fitted the Melon Mambo a the angle I thought looked pleasing, and then lightly marked it with a pencil where I wanted to cut it. After cutting, I used the Sizzix scalloped edge die to diecut both edges. The smaller Whisper White panel was marked to be slightly smaller than the Melon Mambo Panel, then cut, and the scalloped edges matched up with the white scallops, held in place with blue painters tape, and die cut.
I am giving this card a difficulty rating of "3" out of "5" mainly because of the need to hand color the rose, and the extra effort it took to create the angled panel on the card front. I think it will make a GREAT anniversary card!
Thanks for the inspiration "Just Add Ink" design team!
