This card was made for Try Stampin' on Tuesday sketch challenge #369 (https://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com) with the optional challenge of "scrap busting" to use us your paper scraps.
First off, no full sheets of cardstock or designer paper were harmed in the making of this card :-D All the pieces were scraps from previous cards I had made.
The base is a piece of Basic Black sized 5-1/2"x 8-1/2" folded in half. On this was glued a piece of Kraft cardstock sized 5-1/4"x 4". This Kraft panel was used to build the card front elements.
First I cut strips of "Go Wild" pattern paper into sections that were two arrows wide (I chose arrows to go along with the sentiment and compass theme). These strips were glued along the bottom of the Kraft panel evenly spaced so that each column of arrows went in opposite directions. Don't worry about making the top of the columns all the same length, since you'll be covering the tops up in the next step.
I then cut a scrap of Mint Macaron cardstock 5"x2-3/8" for the globe embossing. Before putting the cardstock in the embossing folder, I swiped Stampin' Up Crumb Cake ink onto the inside of the folder on the side that had the Stampin' Up logo printed on the front. I then carefully placed the Mint Macaron panel on the UN-INKED side where I wanted the embossing to be placed, and closed the folder and ran through my Big Shot. I intentionally let some ink get on the Russian part of the globe since it was such a large expanse of no embossing.
I used an unknown brand of black/clear striped Washi tape, and carefully folded it in half lengthwise so the sticky sides met. This created a "ribbon" I then wrapped around the embossed panel. I attached the two ends to the back of the panel using SU Tape Runner. This embossed map was then glued at the top of the Kraft panel to overlap the arrow strips at the bottom.
The compass from the "Going Global" stamp set was stamped onto Whisper White using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. The compass was then punched out with a 2" Marvy circle punch. A matting for the compass was die cut using SU "Stitched Shapes" dies. I liked the extra touch the stitched edges gave the compass. These two layers were glued together.
To create the compass "arrow", I used a silver metal game spinner and brad from Tim Holzt's "Game Spinner" embellishments. I wanted them a golden color, so I pressed both the spinner and the brad into clear Versamark ink, then covered them with gold embossing powder and heat set them with my SU Heat Tool. Wait to let them cool since the metal gets pretty hot during the heat embossing!
I used a paper piercer to punch a hole through the two layers in the center of the compass, and inserted the brad through the game spinner. The compass assembly then had adhesive foam strips put on the back and then mounted onto the right side of the card.
The sentiment is also from the "Going Global" stamp set. Since it's longer than the two punches I had, I first stamped it on a piece of Whisper White cardstock, then using my paper trimmer, I cut the sentiment along the top and the bottom to almost exactly the same width as the "Word Window" punch. This allowed me to slip one end of the strip into the punch held upside down from the TOP/OUTSIDE (not in thru the sides like normal) and punch the rounded end. I then did the same to the other end of the sentiment strip.
The "Modern Label" matting for the sentiment was done the same way with Kraft Cardstock cut just a smidgen wider than the punch, and inserted from the outside (rather than through the sides like normal) for each end. These two were then glued together, and mounted with adhesive foam strips to the lower left of the card front.
I like the color combination of Mint Macaron and Kraft. I wish that the embossing folder showed less of Russia and more of Australia and New Zealand (since I've visited both lovely countries). But putting ink onto the Russian flat area did help with adding interest to the card.
I'm rating this card as a "4" out of "5" in terms of difficulty. Not because it was hard to make the card, but because it was time consuming with all the steps. I think this would make a good non-pink Valentines card for my wonderful husband of 44 years since we love to travel together.

Thanks, Carla! I had a smile on my face, too, when I wrote the disclaimer for not harming full cardstock sheets :-D I'm glad it brought you a moment of joy!!! -Donna
