Actually, I really wanted to make a card with a chicken coop for Polly's Text Appeal mixed media challenge, but it's taken me till this morning to figure out how I could make the card and incorporate the "cut out" element she stipulate - so in the mean time, I made this.
Masked off the heart and stamped the woodgrain in Walnut Stain DOX. Removed the mask, reverse masked and filled the heart with gesso, using drywall mesh as a stencil.
The leaf, hen and branch were all cut from an old dictionary page on my desk, some parts had gesso, some parts had a stencil monoprint. I sponged the leaf with wild honey, to add colour, and added a little shading along the hen's wing. Having worked out her position in the heart, I did more reverse masking and stamped in the music (RubberstampAvenue). Then I added the branch, hen and fallen leaf.
Pierced the edges, and it still looked a bit bare so I cut a couple of ivy branches, sponged them and added them in the corner, along with a little punched banner. The whole piece was mounted on a card base sponged with Black Soot distress stain.

Sabrina this is so sweet! You did get that bird in a pseudo coop with the dry wall stenciling! That woodgrain makes one feel like the bird is in its home tweeting away enjoying its surroundings ;)You did a great job of including text in your design...it's subtle but adds to the textured look of this piece. Thanks for playing along...your cards are always beautiful and thoughtfully designed.

Oh Sabrina, this brought tears to my eyes....the heart bg, the sweet hen, and the musical notes that always make me think of you. Please keep it for yourself. You could get a shadow box and add some little keepsakes to the box. This is extra special and filled with love. Hugs.
