This is my card for the Alphabet Challenge to use the letter X. I first started off thinking I would use the Roman Numerals of XI for 11 (that is why the clock dials are pointing to 11 o'clock). Then I realized this is a number rather than a word so decided to rethink my strategy a bit. I remembered there is a word that means "resembling wood" or something to that effect so I looked it up and that word is Xyloid. So the card base is the clock case which resembles wood. LOL. I started off putting versamark ink on the non-printed flap of the Darice clock ef. I ran it thru my die cutting machine, poured gold embossing powder on the whole thing and heat embossed it. I actually did this 3 times to get a clean panel because the versamark ink likes to go into places it should not. I placed the square panel onto gold mirror paper and was ready to attach it to the card base when I decided I am too much of a "one note wonder" these days because I am stuck making the same type of card over and over. Ugh! So, then I thought it might be fun to cut a circle out of the embossed panel and make it into a mantle clock. For the card base, I opened it up, and scored vertically at every 1/2" mark to get lines in the paper. To get the faux woodgrain look in the card base, I opened it up so it lays flat, then I attached a 5x7 Post-It note on the middle seam to mask off the back side, and ran my open SU cranberry crisp ink pad over the card front several times until I was happy with the look. This was sort of the card "that wouldn't come together," but in the end, I am happy with it.

Stunner!!! Don't know if the word gorgeous is masculine but this creation is just over the top drop dead gorgeous. There that sounded more masculine. Into my fav it goes!! Awesome job.

This is fabulous Karen! I keep looking at the sentiment trying to determine how you got that fancy edge to it. I really like your clocks and this card. Great job.

All that effort paid off!!! Great concept and description, you had me giggling. We all have those moments, don't we!?! Also, we learned a new word: Xyloid!
Try using a few variations with different colors for different xyloid walls. You'll have a blast! I must say, your bg is beautiful and am surprised that it's just the one color. Impressive!

I love this! I am learning lots of new words today! Great xyloid background! I love the gold paper you used for the clock, hour hands and also the sentiment. A fantastic card.

Awesome card! Love the wood grain or xyloid background. Clever take on the Letter X challenge. The gold looks great. I see those Roman Numeral X's. I think it counts! Well done. TFS
