Summer Seas

This card was an adventure. Taped down my dry-wall tape and realized I could not find my modeling paste and it was too early to go to the store. I thought I would try some thick chalk paint I had on the window ledge (yes, I have all kinds of crafty stuff on that ledge and hubby doesn't like it but doesn't say a word - lol). It wasn't thick enough but I got some texture and my card then went in a different direction. Sponged several colors of TH ink over the dry wall tape. Realized I had a gap in the middle of tape and then sponged on much more ink to try and hide it but it didn't work. Decided I would try to hide the gap more after I removed the tape so more ink was added and some more white chalk paint. Never could get rid of the gap in in the sky but decided it could be part of that summer story the stamp is talking about. My boat was a sponged up mess despite my masking under the dry wall so I stamped and fussy cut some fresh sails.

I am going to try this technique again (without the gap and with some modeling paste) - supper fun and the inks seemed to really work well.

The stamps are new DRS Designs stamps coming out this weekend, and the card was made for the DRS Designs challenge - The Heat is On (Summer theme).

Oh Nancy, this card is stunning....the radiance you created is amazing. It's one of those cards a person wants to keep looking at over and over. Peaceful and soothing. TFS

Nancy, your card is beautiful. I have no idea how it could get any better. You sure created a beauty with the chalk paints and the TH inks.

Beautiful card. The use of the dry wall tape is brilliant.

Wow, I just LOVE the effect you get with using drywall tape to create a background, especially if you use something over it to create the texture! Before I read what you did, I thought it was an embossed piece that you sponged the color on! The "glow" behind the boat looks perfect, not the 'gap' you were thinking - more like the glow of the sun behind the boat on an early morning sail!! LOVE IT!! HUGZ!

Wow, Nancy. You do achieve some fantastic effects with your dry wall tape. I had to really look for the gap you talked of. It sure isn't noticeable if you hadn't mentioned it. Love the texture in this fantastic lake scene! So beautifully done with your morning sunrise in the background!

Despite all the challenges you had making this card, it turned out wonderfully. LOVE the texture from the chalk paint through the stencil. And your sponging on top has created such depth of colour. Fantastic card Nancy. xx

That glow of color that you created behind the boat is stunning. The whole card feels like a lovely old oil painting. The white chalk paint sure made a terrific water look, and the dry wall tape gives the bg the perfect texture. Faved.

Nancy this looks incredible. I thought you created this amazing background using a stencil, then I read it was dry wall tape...fabulous.....then I read on and learnt you removed the tape. I never would have thought of that!! I love the yacht and little waves. The warmth from the sun sinking into the horizon looks so realistic. Can you tell how much I love this. I have a great recipe for modelling paste, as soon as I find it I will send a PM. Thanks for such a detailed description I can't wait to give this a go my friend. Hugz.
