 | | This is for Dawn's fun free for All challenge - "A true free for all". Often I will make a card and then think to myself, "I should have made it in a different colour", so I decided to make two card, with a few tiny differences.
The background was first done by smacking several pink distress inks onto a sheet of foil, spritz on a LOT of water, then drag the cardstock through the puddle, spritz on more water and continue to move an A4 sheet of cardstock around until well covered.
Using the same sheet of foil (and working quickly while your cardstock is still rather wet), apply 3 drops of Izink, spritz each drop with few good squirts of water and swish the cardstock around until you get good coverage. Once dry I cut the A4 sheet to various sizes BEFORE doing the final inking, spritzing and stencilling. This pink background is from the same sheet of very vivid hot pink card I made the other day. To get a softer look for this card, I didn't rub on any extra ink and was a bit more lighthanded with stenciling - I also stencilled with a lighter coloured distress ink and added a bit more orange.
Repeat process for blue card. I flicked a lot of water on the bottom section of the blue card, then blotted it with tissue. Stamp trees, branches etc.
I used scraps of cardstock and gave them a light inking before stamping and fussy cutting the feathers and the dress bodice. Each girl was stamped onto smooth white cardstock using Archival ink and skin coloured with a gellato before fussy cutting. Their hair is pitch black, but blue girl didn't photograph as well. I used a glue stick to adhere the girls to the cards so they sit very flat on the background to create the illusion that they were there first and the background was built around them.
NOTE or should I say CONFESSION. I often get lovely comments about my fussy cutting....the trick is to use a sponge dauber and distress ink (in the same colour that you stamped with). Distress inks are perfect for this as it is "soft" and a little more forgiving than trying to ink edges with Archival or Memento etc. Black Soot distress ink and Gathered Twigs or Walnut Stain. Only rub the dauber on the white cut edge, not on the actual image (unless you have really stuffed up the stamping or cutting, then deliberately ink a bit of the image to disguise any ooopppses.
