WT492 Spoon necklaces
Added to Favorite

Photo Details
Poster: f.schles

The hardest part about making these necklaces was trying to photograph them. There is a very thick layer of UTTE over them, and that along with the sheen from the metal and the fact that the camera on my cheap Samsung tablet is awful, the photos really look nothing like the actual necklaces. When I was a teenager my brother made me a really cool fork bracelet...now he is a dentist. So, I was thinking about that bracelet which led me to think about spoons. I took a wire cutter - a lock cutter, or something stronger would be easier - and grabbed the spoon handle with the cutter about 3/4 of an inch up from the spoon bowl. I bent the handle back and forth until it broke. This was very early in the morning since I was up with dear Dolly my insomniac dog. This next part maks a lot of noise early in the morning...I rubbed the rough edges on the concrete patio to smooth them out. Then I took a needle nose pliers and bent the little handle part back to make a loop for the necklace cord. I stamped musical notes for one necklace and a bkg pattern for the other and sponged with distress inks. Sponged with embossing ink and added several layers of UTTE. I figured out very quickly that you need to hold the METAL spoon with something other than your fingers when applying the heat gun. Glued on various pieces of old metal junk that I have. And there you have it...2 very glossy necklaces for the WT492 challenge to use glaze. These are a little weird, so I am not sure what I am going to do with them. TFL, Francie

These are so cool. As a jewelry crafter I think you did an amazing job.

They look really cool...very creative! I remember when I was in high school a lot of jewelry was made out of old silverware..I still have a cuff bracelet made out of that..I love it! I like your choice of embellishments on this..especially the one on the right. I love the description..esp the part about sanding them on the concrete patio..funny!

How utterly creative, Francie! It's funny the creativity that flows so early in the morning! Love your spoon necklaces, especially the one with the music background!

What a cool project this is!!! I am going to forward a link to this photo to my daughter, who has just started to make jewelry. I think she'll like them.

Francie, these are FANTASTIC!! Each one is literally a work of art and what unique pieces of art to wear besides. Love your collage themes and use of color. Bravo for your artistic talent and creativity.

Francie...I lOVE how your mind works! You have SUCH artisitic talent and we are all so lucky here at Splitcoast to be able to view all the wonderful idea's you have. My husband was visiting my craft room so I showed him your spoon necklaces and read to him your creative process. SO we get to the part about the rubbing out the rough edges on the concrete and he says "why didn't she just use a file?"...and I said...she is a girl and used what was handy and I might add pretty brilliant, as nescesity was the mother of invention....he is such a "guy"! :-) Love each piece of art you created on your spoon faces...You ROCK!
