Happy Birthday Evelyn - MMTPT258
Added to Favorite

Photo Details
Poster: susie australia

This weeks teaparty is for Evelyn Lamb's 100th birthday. Can you imagine how many changes and discoveries Mrs Lamb has seen in her lifetime. I thought "Evelyn" would have been an uncommon name in 1913, so I googled it and I couldn't have been more wrong. In the USA in 1913, Evelyn was the 12th most popular girls name and in 2013, Evelyn is 14th on the list. OK that's our history lesson concluded for today. Now about the card. We were asked to bring sewing, stitching, fabric, etc. An update on my sewing machine cord.....still missing....

I have shown this as a stair step fold because I can't find "Center Step Fold" in the catagory list (sorry in advance to the moderator). I made the step in the middle so the little girl is sitting back from the window. She is cut from Pion Design paper called Alma's Sewing Room. It is a bit hard to see but the little girl is holding a spool of cotton. I figured this little girl would be 100 by now, wouldn't it be a hoot if Evelyn knows her. LOL. I digress, back to the card.

Technically the card doesn't make any sence, the floral paper was meant to look like wall paper, but then I went and fussy cut it. I added lace to the back of the window so it didn't look so odd. There is acetate on the window. I have no idea why I added gold twine, I tend to throw everything but the kitchen sink on a card, so I had to add something. The liquid pearls were added to cover the stickles that I origionally put on (as if they had stickles a hundred years ago).

The little sign at the top saying "est 1913" was at the suggestion of DH (I'm not that clever to think of things like that, in fact I said "huh", yes, well Evelyn was born in 1913). The other little sign is a die cut of a thread spool. I wrapped some gold thread around it and printed words on the computer.

I think you would boot me out of the sisterhood of the travelling teapotters if you knew how long this took. At one stage I thought Evelyn wouldn't get it until her 101st birthday.

Thank you for looking and have a wonderful week everyone.

What vintage fabulousness!!! (Is that a word?) Your little darling girl is so precious!!! I love the way you did your card shape too, it reminds me of theater curtains, especially with that gorgeous lace! Ms Evelyn is going to LOVE seeing her name on her own sewing shop AND established in the year of her birth!!! Susie, your card is a gift in itself!!! Love it all!!!

ps-My grandma's first name was Evelyn and it is my sister's middle name

Your card is amazing & well worth the time spent. Absolutely love the vintage Victorian feel to this vignette. I can picture this lovely lass doing her stitches.

What a clever idea, to send a fabric store off to Evelyn! This is not only beautiful, Susie, but so very creative! I love the whole vintage look and all the sweet embellishments!

Awesome vintage feel in this card.
I am not at all surprised to hear Evelyn was a common name 100 years ago; I don't believe I've met an Evelyn who is under 80 years old. I am surprised it's a trendy name now, maybe it just hasn't become popular in my part of the country.

You've done it again! How clever to incorporate the date, even, and to capture the vintage feel so perfectly. I love that paper, and the way you've fussy cut it, with the lace behind. And the Liquid Pearls are a fab touch. Some time I'll find some gold cording that ties nicely, sigh, I look every likely shop I go into. Embroidery thread is just too floppy!

p.s. Stair step category covers all the steps - centre, side, the whole lot . Same with easels, all the variations go in the same category. So no apologies to any mods needed.

WOW do I love that vintage image and the vintage charm of your card! You certainly captured the "quilting" theme with this wonderful image and your embellishments! As far as how long it took, I work like that all the time (grin)! It certainly was worth it for a beauty like this!
