 | | Welcome to Create With Me Monday, I am your host this week on Flourishes Blog. School is winding down for most of us and I always like to give my boysÂ’ teacher a little gift or two on the last day of school. One of those gifts this year is a matching journal and bookmark using our newest release Old Tea Rose. The journal is pretty standard from of what I have done in the past, however the bookmark I wanted to match with the lattice edging, so I played around and found how to make them match. Here is a picture of the journal and bookmark.
Here are the supplies you will need for your bookmark: card stock, Old Tea Rose stamp set, crochet ribbon, ribbon and a decorative die. The first thing you will need for your bookmark is to choose the decorative shape you would like for both journal and bookmark so they match. I chose Spellbinders Resplendent Rectangles. For my card stock, I used FlourishesÂ’ Color Made Easy collections – Sunflower and Pistachio. Die cut your decorative shape in your base color. Then, stamp your image onto Classic White Card Stock using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. The image piece of your bookmark should measure 2 inches width x 5 inches in length. Now this is based on this particular die, if you are using a different die measure the die first to know how large or small you need your piece to be. Set aside your stamped piece and we will work with your die cut piece. Cut your piece straight down the middle as shown. You then need to cut 1/2 inch off of each of these pieces straight down the side you just cut in half. Turn your cut pieces over and adhere two pieces of scor tape to the back like so. You will be covering up these seams so donÂ’t worry about that, you just need the two pieces to be attached a little bit Now you will take your crochet white ribbon and adhere it to the back and wrap it around the front to come to the back again. You will do the same thing with your solid ribbon, I have used ribbon from the Color Made Easy Sunflower Collection. Make sure to leave plenty of room at the top and when you wrap it around plenty at the top again. We want to cover the seams in the back and have another color for the front. Cut two pieces of card stock 2-1/4″ x 5-1/4″ in another colored card stock. (I used paper from the Color Made Easy Sunflower collection). Adhere these to the front and back of your bookmark. Now you are ready to color and decorate your stamped image. This is the larger flower in the Old Tea Rose set that is colored with These Copic Collections buttercup, green grass, daffodil and flesh tones1. Once colored, I scored around the border, adhered it to the front of the bookmark and added some snow white pearls to the corners..
For the ribbon top, I tied off a Sunflower button with some jute twine and voila! So pleased that I am able to create the same lattice edging for the bookmark that I have on the journal. They are the different shades of green in the Color Made Easy Pistachio collection and I do like that they are a shade different personally. ItÂ’s a great gift for any teacher and I hope the boysÂ’ teacher likes this set!
