This is a birthday card for my DIL who loves all things Hawaiian. She seems to especially love Hibiscus. I have made her a stamped Hibiscus card in the past but wanted to do one with dimension. This is an SVG file I found on line (free) and I cut it with my Cricut (twice and glued the two petals together to give them a little more body). It was a little challenging because all the pieces were separate! I printed a picture of a real Hibiscus flower from my garden and I first tried to draw the lines that were apparent in the petals. I am NOT an artist by hand and I quickly knew that it wasnÂ’t the route to go. I then decided to try my sunburst EF. SO munch better than my drawn lines! IRL you can see that I deepened the colors towards the center with some chalks. I used flower soft on the stamen. I was so careful to do the project in a coffee filter so I could contain the flower soft and then I had glue on my fingers and picked up the containerÂ…which stuck to my fingers and I ended up spilling most of the small container all over my work space! Quite the mess! I went through my leaf dies and picked one (Die-namics) that was closest to the real leaf but I had trouble with placement and size. Finally ended up with what you seeÂ…made with lots of love!
SU Melon Mambo ink and paper
SU Old Olive card stock (leaves and card base)
Unknown textured white paper
SU scalloped border punch
Half pearls
Stylus (different sizes) to form petals and stamen
Rubbernecker Happy Birthday
Inside I used the negative of this flower cut smaller and backed it in the same white paper. I did the sentiment inside using the Spellbinder Scalloped Rectangle.

Peggy...this turned out beautiful even after all your trouble and spilling your flower soft. You are clever using your starburst EF with the flower, that I absolutely love! GREAT job.
Hugs...Leanne

This is absolutely spectacular. I love the colour and using the sunburst folder was a stroke of genius! Not your usual with such vivid colours but glorious none the less. I am sorry for all the trials you had in the making but I feel so much better that a wonderful artist such as yourself can run into the same snags as us lesser mortals! LOL

Peggy....I just love your entertaining and newsy blurb! I would never buy FlowerSoft because it was just too expensive (and, as any good crafter, I don't say that about very many things....lol). Anyway it was 50% off at my LCS the other day so I bought some.....all I can say is I'm glad I never paid full price for it.
Your card is positively stunning. The work and the love that went into it shows. I especially love that you used your sunburst embossing folder on your petals......totally brilliant!

I have to comment about the flower soft! I have it in several colors, and some of it is the Michaels Studio G (It was in one of there $1 racks and you got like 6 colors in a small containers for a $1.) I had 2 yellows and this seemed closer to the color I wanted. It was my first time using it as well. The other containers I got at a deal at a convention. They were a $1 for a large container. That being said...like Jo I am glad I didn't pay full price for any of it! I have seen a few cards where it was used on small flowers and it looked pretty cool. Maybe the stuff just takes practice :-) but I sure did not find it easy to work with..

Peggy, this is truly SPECTACULAR! Your DDIL will certainly appreciate the time and care that you put into it. Loved the embossed lines that look like the ridges in hibiscus petals. I' m with you on Flower Soft!......must be some secret of application that I don't know. : )
