The easiest way to make the card base is to make a template following the SCS tutorial for a center step card. Mark the cut and score lines on the base. Once that is done you can concentrate on making the opening in the center.
The window: Measuring from the 1” bottom score line the window is 4 ½” tall and 1 ½” wide. Draw a window template to fit in the center area; cut it out. Place the window at the score line and lightly trace it onto your cardstock. You could also use a Die.
Starting at the score line cut your window out using an X-acto knife. The window flap must still be attached to the bottom score line.
To cut the slit on the back of the cardstock: Place the 11” side along the top of the paper cutter. Place the 6” side at 1”. Make a slit from 1 ¾” to 4”. After the card is decorated the window flap will slip into the slit on the outside of the card back. There is a template for this card at http://sylviaskaartenpret.blogspot.com. I just found it easier to use the center step card.
To decorate the card I stamped Heartfelt Creations Clematis Cottage onto White cardstock, cut it out using Spellbinders Wonky Rectangles, colored it with chalk and felt pens. I stamped the birds twice, colored them and used Dimensionals to adhere over the birds to give them dimension. I used a Ranger Blending Tool and added yellow and blue ink on the edges of the wonky rectangles. The flowers are from the Malabar Clematis PreCut Set stamped in blue ink on white cardstock. I used the Ranger blending tool on flower edges. I punched the small yellow flowers from a Fiskers border punch. The trellis and floral borders are from the Cuttlebug Floral Borders – Dies 1 & 2. I wove the Cheery Lynn Mini Fanciful Flourish through the trellis.
