I finally gave in and bought the recommended markers and it certainly made a difference. This is a Local Rubber King stamp on glossy coated cardstock. The stamp is coloured with the markers and stamped. A background stamp is inked with very pale dye ink and stamped over the image. I had trouble finding something light enough. Most of my inks are pigment inks. I used Ranger distress antique linen and stamped off once before stamping over the image.
The green background paper is some Japanese chiyogami that I have been hoarding for years. The black CS came embossed with vertical bars but I don't know if you can see it in the photo. The pink scrap was stamped with a cross hatch pattern.
