I learned about mica shift (a technique for pearl or metallic polymer clays) from DOnna Kato's lovely book Polymer Clay: Creative Surface Techniques (Google for instructions online if you'd prefer). You end up with a design that looks textured but is perfectly smooth to the touch - fun stuff! A stamp with a good balance of open and solid areas is a good starting point for this technique.
I baked my pendant over the top of a spherical tin to give it an interesting overall curve.

How pretty! I love that you put it over a curved surface - so much more interesting than flat. It definitely looks textured, too. I haven't worked in polymer clay for a loooong time - may have to revisit that.
