Very timely challenge, Julia - thank you.
My original recipe filing system is a rosewood box my dad made me about 30 years ago. Alas, it's all too easy to take a filing card out and not put it back! This is a prime example, and every year after scouring the kitchen for it, I promise myself I will type it out and at least have it on the PC.
This mincemeat recipe I have also been using for almost 30 years - at least since I was 17 or 18. It comes from The Heritage Collection of Home Tested Recipes, compiled by the Chatelaine Institute. No date inside it, but the other Chatelaine collection I received from Canada the same year was printed in 1978.
A2 base, Basic Grey Dasher, distressed edges sponged with Peeled Paint and faux stitching in brown round the edges. Recipe printed on card, cut with Labels 4 and sponged with Antique Linen and Vintage Photo. I added little burgundy grosgrain tabs with small gold brads. My *curtain pole* is an old bamboo knitting needle, and the finials are red Wonder Beads attached with pearl-headed pins. The flash has made the beads shine more pink than they are, which is more like cranberry red. I added some 5-layer buttons from an old TLC, which I had to rescue when some water got on the card they were on, and smudged the colouring.
Mincemeat:
2 cups suet
3 cups coarsely grated cooking apples
1 cup apple jelly
2 pts grape juice or cider
1 pt peach jam
3 cups brown sugar
2 lb raisins
1 lb currants
1 tsp salt
1 tblsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg & 1/2 tsp cloves
Grated rind and juice of 2 oranges & 2 lemons
p.s. - with added brandy, this keeps very well in an airtight jar for the following year.
And I don't necessarily use the jams / jellies specified. For some years I had apple jelly, as DH omitted the all-important crabapple when he told me he loved apple jelly. I look at whatever is in the fridge and cupboard that needs using up.

A girl after my own heart! It seems I'm the only one around here that loves mincemeat pie! I could eat that every day. I have the best of intentions all the time: I purchase large jars of it every once in awhile and then end up eating it right out of the jar when I cant wait til I make a pie. Fabulous way to showcase a well used recipe.
