MMTPT72 Hoot Owl Christmas
Added to Favorite

Photo Details
Poster: Cook22

I must admit to bending Lorraine's Cookie Walk TPT challenge. Well, how could I choose just one cookie! Regular brownies, Kahlua Brownies, Aniseed Cookies, Hermits, Springerle, Lemon Thins, Coconut Shortbread, Spicy Cranberry Squares...the list goes on and on.
When I do bake for Christmas, it's usually gingerbread - but I already brought a gingerbread house along to a TPT. Mostly I make candies - creamy cocoa fudge, Christmas fudge, Mexican orange candy, chocolate truffles.
So I chose a biscuit recipe to suit my card - which is for a friend of DH's who collects owls and keeps all the cards he sends.
I didn't like my first card so I pulled it to bits and started from scratch with my image panel.
A2 red base, some old photo paper and recycled ribbon from the wonderful RAK Lorraine sent me, and bling.
The image panel is an October Afternoon owl stamped with Brilliance Chocolate and embossed with clear EP, which is why he's a bit sparkly looking. Coloured with H2Os, cut out and popped onto greenery from Kodomo's Winter Robins. Cut with deckle rectangle and sponged with Faded Denim and Milled Lavender. I added Stickles round the edge, and a See-D's sentiment.

Hoot Owl Cookies - this came from a Hershey's pack of Peanut-butter chips at least thirty years ago.
Cream together 3/4 cup butter, 1 cup soft brown sugar, 1 egg and 1 1/2 tsp vanilla essence. Mix in 2 1/4 cups flour sifted with 2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt. Remove two thirds of the dough and add 1/3 cup sifted unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda and 1 tblsp water.
Roll the plain dough into two rectangles, each 10" by 4". Fill each one with a roll of chocolate dough, so you have a chocolate centre with a plain ring around it. Press the two rolls lightly together and chill for an hour or so. Slice, adding peanut-butter chips for the eyes and a cashew nut for the beak. Pinch the corners into ears.
Back at 180C, 375F for about 8 - 10 minutes.

Sabrina, I love that little owl sitting on the evergreen branch. He looks quite at home and so peaceful. How clever of you to add that sparkle and those ribbons.

Your recipe sounds delicious and one that I will be adding to my collection. I hope I get to try it very soon!

So glad you could join us at the Cookie Walk this week!
