I made this door plaque for the November VSN, “Cabaret”.
Kandi, (kandicejo) chose "See Your Name In Lights" for her theme and challenged us to create a personalized name plate or plaque that could be hung on a wall or door knob. Any kind of lettering could be used as long as there was some kind of stamping on the plaque.
I created a plaque for the door of my studio with the name of my blog and web site, “The Seaside Rose Cottage”, on one side. On the flip side, I made a “Do Not Disturb” sign.
I wanted the plaque to reflect a garden theme and I envisioned a garden setting on each side. Since our time for the challenge was limited to 45 minutes, I decided to put some basic garden elements in place and then finish the project after the VSN.
I stamped and painted a sundial stamp and some extra leaves from the same stamp, cut them out, and set them aside. Next, I printed the captions from the computer onto design paper and then cut the ovals around them. I cut a third oval from a piece of cardboard and fused all three layers.
I trimmed and sanded the edges and brushed them with gold. By the time I glued the sundial and leaves in place, the challenge time was essentially up. I punched holes for the ribbon but didnÂ’t have time even to set brads.
