NOV10VSBNK ~ Friday, November 5, 2010 ~ NOON EST ~ Cloud 9 Brings Peace & Joy!

Title: Cloud 9 Brings Peace & Joy!
Hostess: Mary Pat (Mary_Pat419)
Keyword: NOV10VSBNK
Day/Date: Friday / November 5, 2010
Time: NOON (EST)

This digi challenge was originally to be hosted by JTapler but due to a family emergency she was unable to prepare a challenge & participate this weekend. We did not want you to miss out on a digi challenge so here is a very basic one by me who is a novice digi scrapper :-). If you are a paper scrapper, no worries there is an alternative method for you...or, this is simple enough to give a try! Either way, keep reading and have fun with it!

On Cloud 9, one is suppose to find peace, joy, and contentment! To me, this describes how I feel when I give someone a gift. This has been a year of Gift Albums for me. I did a 62 digi album that I presented to my Girl Scout Troop in June as they 'flew' up from Juiors to Cadettes (& went from elementary school to middle school). I also had a blast making (& giving) a first year baby album to my brother & sil for my new nephew-to-be.

My challenge to you is to create a 'Gift' page. A page that when you give it to someone (maybe for this Holiday Season) it will fill you with peace, joy, and contentment. Okay, that part is easy...but THIS is a digi challenge (paper scrappers can do this too!)...you need to 'capture' an icon/image from on-line and use it as an embellishment on your page as a momento of what you are scrapping. For example, on my first page, we had a movie/dinner night. I 'captured' an image of the dvd box of the movie we saw and used the logo of the restaurant. This is a simple computer move, just Google what you are looking for; switch from 'web' to 'images'; right click on the image you want and click on 'Save Picture As...' and save the image to use on your page. If you are not a digi scrapper, just use a piece of memorabilia or make your own that is specific to your page/event.

Here I captured Girl Scout cookie boxes to put into the page.

Here I saved the badge images and used them like large brads. (This is an old challenge but still an example for this challenge)

BONUS: Use one of my pages as a sketch for your page!
There is a $10 gift certificate donated by The Digichik to the page that best represents this challenge (vsbn hosts are not allowed to win the prize): The Digichick{Capture, Record and Preserve your Life's Story}

Here is the GALLERY for this challenge...leave a little luv for everyone!

UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. To be considered for VSBN Recognition, ALL VSBN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EST ON Sunday, November 14, 2010 for VSBN.

2. You have 3 hours to complete the challenge (each challenge theoretically produces one page per hour). For contest purposes, 1 upload per participant per challenge will be eligible to earn award/recognition. For example: if you complete 3 indivdual pages for this challenge, and upload each of them to the gallery you can only win one award/recognition for only one of your pages; the other two are part of the gallery to share but cannot win any award/recognition. If you upload a double page spread as one upload, it will be considered one upload; please do not upload the pages individually or they will not be considered a double page spread. It is the VSBN Challenge Host's decision to award/recognize pages that best represent her challenge based on the criteria in the challenge. Please be sure to write your description of how you interpreted his/her challenge in your Upload Description.

3. Please remember to put in the correct KEYWORD: NOV10VSBNK , when uploading your image; a wrong keyword means your submission may not be seen for consideration. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.

It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in this chat thread to be sure you layout is seen by the host and all visitors.

Mary Pat...is the last letter of the challenge to be "D" or "K"? Both are on this one.

Mary_Pat419 11-05-2010 08:04 AM

Sorry, it's K...thanks for catching that!!!!

Mary_Pat419 11-05-2010 08:08 AM

Jen's original time slot was 9PM Saturday and we'd already assigned everything so I kept it the same...so, yes, it's out of order :-) Unfortunately the emergency got worse and her father passed away; he was ill but sad all the same. Hearts, hugs, & prayers to JenT.

eeddmm 11-05-2010 08:09 AM

So sad to hear...will keep her and the family in our prayers.

Mary_Pat419 11-05-2010 08:10 AM

Where is everyone???? There was so much chatter in the other thread I thought there'd be a mad rush over here ;-) Guess you're all scrappin' away!

cla616 11-05-2010 08:10 AM

hmm need to go on a picture hunt, I know the perfect thing to do with my page in terms of a gift, it's my parent's anniversary tomorrow, 39 years, so I should put a page together for them as a gift, so now to figure out what elements to use on it :) So hoping to look for pictures and figure this out while Maci is content (she just woke up) and Chris and Maddy just made a Lowes run - thank goodness for digi scrapping (especially since the basement is completely torn apart too)

cla616 11-05-2010 08:12 AM

thanks for giving us 3 pages to choose from for sketch ideas too, should hopefully make this all come together easily!!

If you're doing one of the girls, how about a border of places and activites they have done over the years with them? Sort of the reverse of this page I did a while ago: Fun Amazing Books 2 by Mary_Pat419 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

OMG!! I'm just looking at the girls in this page and it's AMAZING how much they've changed...they're all in puberty now and went from cute little girls to pre-teens!

Mary_Pat419 11-05-2010 08:17 AM

brb

Divanurse 11-05-2010 08:17 AM

This one is quite challenging. I can't think of anything for this right now.

exactly what I was thinking :) just seeing how I could make it flow and use the best pics :)

eeddmm 11-05-2010 08:29 AM

Well. I tried to copy/download the pictures from the website of the restaurant where DH and I went over the summer in Phila but Photoshop won't recognize the format to open them and I can't figure out how to save the individual pictures from the webpage since they are in a video format and keep changing. They are on the page as teeny tiny images which I was able to save but then I can't make them any bigger! So I guess I'll have to think of something else to do...hmmm....

cla616 11-05-2010 08:30 AM

what a bummer terry!!

Hey Terry...when you Googled the restaurant, did you use the website or did you toggle over to IMAGES? Usually there are tons of images and you can Save one of them. Also, if you put into Photoshop you'll want to save it as a .jpeg...also, the magic wand thingy does something but that's about as technical as I get ;-)

eeddmm 11-05-2010 08:41 AM

Well...how do you toggle over to Images? I didn't understand that part of the instructions so I know I didn't do that.

When you type in the Google Search Box...you will have WEB references come up. On the Screen you have choices:

Web Images Videos Maps News Shopping Gmail more ▼

Click on the word Images and the screen will then put up all images that are referenced to your Search.

Mary_Pat419 11-05-2010 08:47 AM

It's super cold for Florida this time of year!!! I had the AC on yesterday and tonight we might need the heat! Off to get my chili & hot tea...my thin blood can't take this :-)

WOW! If that's not the cat's meow! I never noticed that before. Gave me over 171,000 images! So I refined that search a wee bit and have it down to 3,800 images! Guess I'll be able to do this page after all! Thanks!

YEAH!!!! I know when I first realized that choice...it was a WOWZA moment for me :-)

tamcan 11-05-2010 08:59 AM

Hi ladies. I'm here will be in and out but will be scrapping all evening. Great challenge!
Sad to hear of Jen's loss, praying for her and her family.
Off to order pics. Oh, if it's for a gift do we need pics for this challenge?

cla616 11-05-2010 08:59 AM

great idea MP, wouldn't have thought of that either, although I am sure I have used it before, but like Terry I just focus on what's right there!!!

Enjoy the chili, it's definitely getting cooler here too, getting ready to make some hot chocolate I think

And my picture choosing is coming together slowly but surely, during the day I definitely need 3 hours to get these done, with feeding Maci, and everything else :)

Mary_Pat419 11-05-2010 09:00 AM

Okay gang...gotta go take a photo op for DD1...it's Homecoming Parade and she's on a 'float' (back of pick-up). They're leaving now so I should be back in less than an hour...enjoy!!!

cnsteele 11-05-2010 09:05 AM

I plan on participating but I have to wait until the 2 year old boy I'm watching leaves (45 more mintues!). My 5 year old has a friend over and my older two won't be home until after 4, but they are big enough that they understand what I'm doing. I'll use my time to plan in my head until the little one leaves. I've been looking forward to this VSBN for WEEKS!

good plan, at least you have a little time to formulate what you want to do :) That way hopefully you will be a little prepared when you are ready to start assembling!! And looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

can't wait to see the pictures!!

cla616 11-05-2010 09:13 AM

I'm trying to figure out a Title, with being all about grandparents but also having 39 years of marriage, since these are the only 2 grandchildren they will have, I am an only.

any thoughts out there???

Mary_Pat419 11-05-2010 09:43 AM

I'm back and DD1 was soooo excited!!!! She even yelled 'Hi Mom!' and the people around were impressed that a teenager acknowledged a parent ;-) LOL!! Gorgeous but breezy day here and hopefully the pics turn out well. We had a big turnout this year...must be because of our Quarterback. He's ranked #1 in the nation for HS Quarterbacks and he's a Senior this year.

GeorgiaBabydoll 11-05-2010 09:43 AM

When you find the one you want, click on it and it opens in another tab/window (depending on how you have your browser set) then, right-click and pick the 'save image as...' This way it starts out bigger and if you are just using PowerPoint or Word, you can just resize the image.
Not to butt in, but I'm pretty good on the computer so thought I'd just share this info. :-)

I'm impressed that you think your 5 year old will not bother you too much...must be the difference between boys and girls...my DDs would never have done that for me, even with a friend to distract them ;-)

Girl...you just butt on in...it's VERY appreciated :-) I know how to do things but not how to explain them ;-) Hope you're hanging out to play too!

Mary_Pat419 11-05-2010 09:53 AM

How's everyone doing???? I have DD1 bringing a friend over so I'm going to throw my dishes in the dishwasher and brb.

Thanks! I've actually done that before with a school mascot logo for a page I did a while ago but this time the pictures were on a loop and right clicking wouldn't allow me to save them when they were on the screen. Switching over to the Images Option did allow me to pick some really good pictures to use and I've got them on my DPS now. Just have to find embellishments and do the journaling part.

BUT, DGS is home again so it'll be a much slower process now that I've got to keep going and checking up on him since he's stayed outside to play with his friend that lives across the street. Street is pretty quiet for the moment since most people are still at work. The sun has actually decided to show it's face today! Yeah!!!

That's good to know...have fun with DGS! I'm getting ready to upload my photos from the parade. I thought I'd be far away and I bought the 'big' lens...but I wasn't...so now to see if I the pictures are better or worse than I thought :-)

Gotta love a teen who does a shout out to mom at a public event. Yay, for MP!

That's a tough one...is there a special saying they have for the kids??? Hmmm, maybe a song title?
