Hey Kirsten..........I'm busy organizing all my digi freebies from today........THEN I can start scrapping...........eek......had too much fun hounding around for free stuff today! ;-)
Ya know I didn't even think about doing a digi page, but I don't get the same thrill from it, and I don't have ALL my cool files on my laptop. I moved them to an external a few months back.

For me the thrill is "get it out of my head" ........have you seen any of the Harry Potter movies?! For me, scrapbooking is a lot like Dumbledore's pensieve....that magical bowl in which he can place his thoughts and memories, to save them for later deliberation or to simply clear space in his mind.... Digital is the quick flick of a wand that extracts those thoughts and gets them into the album that is my pensieve.

My suggestion: try and volunteer in her classroom on a regular schedule....most teachers will let you volunteer starting the end of September/mid-October (once the class settles into routine). Also, go to PAC Meetings. People rarely go because they worry they'll get sucked into volunteering, but really, that PAC Mtgs is where you'll get the pulse of the school, where you'll find out what sort of events are coming (waaaaaaay ahead of when the newsletter will get you the info), and will let you know what little ways you can get involved without being "sucked in" to running the whole school! :-) Many small schools rely on volunteer librarians, so that's a good place to get involved, too..... of course, it all hinges on whether or not you have childcare for your other babes for that one morning a week/a month....... however you do it....and you may have to be kind of hyper vigilant about getting yourself a volunteering position (not sure why, but it seems to be that way for kindergarten Moms)..... you will LOVE being in her school!!!!!!!
Um.........EIGHT?!?!?! How on earth did you manage EIGHT pages today???? And 1/2 your kids are still up??? WOW, I was happy with the three I've accomplished.........YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!

ty for the advice. I have this feeling, because we're just coming into the school that it might be more difficult but i really want to be involved so i'll be asking and pushing my way in (nicely). I figure we are going to be at that school for the next 13 years.
did you see that I said, finished 8? One of them.....I had to stamp and then glue the title onto the dps.

Be persistent with the teacher.....some teachers will jump to have you in, some teachers simply forget or are a bit scattered when it comes to anything outside of their written planner for the day. I have always gone in as "The Reading Mom"....I have yet to find a teacher who will say "No, please, don't read with each child individually!".....and.....my advice, make sure you don't get pegged into helping only the most struggling students.....you aren't on the pay roll, so work with EACH KID in the class (my personal soap box here), including your own child.....some Moms think it's 'playing favourites' to even acknowledge their own child when volunteering.....um, Mommy....you are there because of YOUR CHILD.....not anyone else's (the fact that other kids benefit from time with you is happy bonus for them!)....don't let the teacher make you 'special helper' to the kid with the big behaviour issues..... be the Volunteer Mom.....that's super fun!!!!!! :-)
Okay.....I've done 4 pages and now, must step away from the computer as my eyes are bugging!!!!!!!!
Night Jodi......wish I could stay and chat with you......must......step.....away.........night!

That was my feeling at the beginning of last year - I thought I'd sort of hang back and watch for awhile, get a feel for things. I tried attending the parent council meetings without actually being ON the council.... That all lasted about two weeks. I jumped right in! The best thing I did was spend time in the school, in classrooms other than the one my child is in! I wish I'd done it earlier in the year. It helped me to get to know the 'culture' of the school, where we fit in to that, and where I can work to improve it.
The most challenging thing for me what getting help with Raif so I COULD be at school. I ended up taking him with me when I did things in Kindergarten, and in the oldest classes (where the big kids helped to look after him!) I'm lucky, though, I can SEE the school from my kitchen window so I don't have far to go.

Jodi, I totally agree with Kirsten....make sure and volunteer around the school to get a feel for the school as a whole, also, gives you insight into the teachers you will have over the course of your 13 years there! As for childcare help, I've found that there are often Moms who have no desire to be in the class, but will watch my kids on a regular basis because they do believe in having a "Reading Mom" for their kid.....sort of a barter&trade system. hth

And here is the journaling that goes with the pic--who knew it would get so windy!
What would I tell this girl…
I would tell you that I haven’t ever looked closely at this picture…I always thought that this picture depicted you as a happy, carefree teen—ready to take on the world…but now that I look closer at your face, I see the pain of trying to fit in…of trying to be someone that your parents will think is good enough—I see that your tears hover just behind your eyes… So here is what I want you to know—You do fit in—You don’t have to play the games of those around you…You are magnificent—just the way you are—You have many years in front of you and your choices will lead you down a path that may not always be easy, but it Will Be rewarding. You will have great treasures in your life—Perhaps not monetarily, but emotionally, you will gather the laughter of others, the peace and contentment of the world around you. You will learn how to stand up for yourself—it will take a very long time but it will be that much more gratifying. You will enjoy the moments in life, the small things will delight you, the smell of fragrant flower, the sound of laughter. But, I will also tell you that you will always worry about fitting in-of being OK-whether with family, friends, or colleagues—Bottom line—allow yourself to believe in yourself and let go of all of those feelings of inadequacy and just enjoy your life-
Cherish what makes you unique
Live each day with laughter
Delight in the little things
Believe in the rainbow in the midst of the storm
Imagine the possibilities
Experience the world with enthusiasm

So my perfect night of scrapping will be delayed. DH found out that it'll cost $800 to get his '98 car fixed yet again and that's after spending close to that ealier today getting my car fixed. It is at the age and milage that we need to let it go. We've been putting it off for a couple of years and really shouldn't have. Now we have to find the money for something. I know with God we will be ok, but it is still hard to take.
As soon as I can I'll join the fun at the mini-vsbn thread
Tami, I've missed you. Hope you can play with us tonight.
Hi Tami--good to see you here!!
Ok I had a little fun with A Window View--I scrapped what I didnt want to see out my window--but did!! I didnt use the lay-out because I wanted to use the fireworks paper!

Oh girl, I'm sorry. It's like car problems multiply quicker than rabbits. Uggg. I hope you can get something more reliable.
