I have a question about this XL die. I just got it and I love it...but I have seen two variations of the basket made. From what I read on a blog, it seems that if you put the bottom in, flat side to the bottom (tabs up), then you will get more of a cup-shape basket (like pictured in the catty), and if you put the bottom with tabs down you get more of the "purse" shaped basket. I've tried both....and I only get the purse! Maybe I need to try thicker paper??? Any suggestions? Any ideas?
Thanks!

Kisa.....I assemble mine with the tabs up which I think just gives it a more finished look. But yes it's a matter of personal taste which way you prefer. I feel the tabs are hidden better being inside the tote.
I've tried all kinds of paper and cardstock. I prefer cardstock. Seems to make it easier to assemble for me.
I don't understand the "purse" shape you're referring to. I tried doing one with the tabs going down, but it still came out the round shape. Was a bit more difficult to assemble. Mine just doesn't seem to sit as flat with the tabs down. What's a "purse" shape?
When you assemble the basket do not fold the side creases. Use them only as a guide for assembly. On my first one I had pre-folded the scores on the side and it was purse-like in shape. The next one I made I just used the score lines as a guide for my adhesive and it was much better- fully round. I used sticky strip to be sure it held.
I love the little tote, but feel the die was made incorrectly. There are perforations where there should be only score lines. The perforations make it more difficult to assemble and achieve a round shape.
I decided to put the curved strips from the die (meant as decorations) on the sides where the perforations are. I found it gives it more support for shape and stay together.
I'm writing to Sizzix and Stampin' Up to voice my comments as to why those areas are perforated and not scored?
You know, I was kind of wondering that myself about the scoring/perforations....it seemed to be too loose once you folded it. Hmm... very interesting! I wonder if they goofed.
Ladies......If you follow the instructions on the paper (back of paper that shows the die pieces), you will get a much more rounded tote than the one in the video. Also, using the package instructions, I feel it is much easier to get the bottom attached smoother and more even with the sides flat rather than assembled.
Sorry to critisize the video (person does do some very nice videos), but hers come out with pointed sides instead of rounded. The pictures in the Stampin' Up catalog are rounded which I feel is achieved by using the instructions included in the package.
I still do disagree with having the sides pieces perforated rather than scored.
Obviously, these are just my opinons, you may be looking for a different look.

I find that the perforations "break-away" and I have to add tape to the perforations to keep the basket together. What am I doing wrong?? I too am not sure why there are perforations, instead of just a crease. Does it work better to cut with the crease pad?
I'm thinking about getting this die too. But I have another question... I buy the die and make these cute baskets... How is everyone mailing them and what are you mailing them in to send to friends and family?
Many thanks
Robin
Isn't the perforation the way the score line is made? It's one of the things I've never liked about any of those type of die cuts. LOL, I'm learning to live with 'em, but I don't like 'em.
Still, I've made the baskets different shaped by adjusting the way I've put the botton on. When you do it so the tabs face up inside the cup, it ends up being more rounded than when they face down...not up. And just be really careful about rolling the basket's side bottom onto the tabs...
