Default Where can I find wax paper??

I really want to learn how to stamp on candles,so I went to Joann and Michael's to find wax paper. I asked some employee there and they said they never heard wax paper....so can anyone help me please? Also what is glassine paper? I found that in Martha Stewart's stuff. Thanks

You can buy wax paper at the grocery store or walmart. It is near the plastic bags and foil.

This post made me smile. It tells your age and now it is telling mine! When I was little-before plastic ziploc bags-waxed paper is what my sandwiches were wrapped in for school lunch every day! It wasn't real good for potato chips though!!!

I was thinking the same thing! we still use good ol' "Cut-Rite" at our house.
I live in upstate New York and we also used to put colorful fall leaves between 2 sheets of it and press them with an iron and put them on the wall like art. ;)

Cut-Rite rules! Is there any other kind of Wax Paper? If there is, I've NEVER seen it... We used to iron leaves, too... Wax Paper is COOL... BTW, is it waxed paper or wax paper? (tomato/tomato)

I'm another leaf and wax paper person. I thought there might be a punch line to the title to this, I guess I am joining the ranks of "showing my age". UGH!

We did the same thing. But my favorite was to put crayon shavings between wax paper and then iron it.

it's great for pressing flowers, the more or less flat type like violas, violets, ferns, etc. I put them between two layers of waxed paper and stick them between the pages of the phone book - my daughter saves the "big city" phone book for me since our small town one is only about an inch thick. Free dried flowers for my cards etc ...

....stamping her foor and saying Hmpf! very loudy!

I am NOT old! Wax paper is a PERFECTLY normal thing to know about! right?

... and my sister still has a rotary phone in her kitchen - so there!

I've not used 'glassine' paper per se, but a quick ask.com search indicates that it is the same as cellophane paper?

I'm not so sure it's the same as cellophane. I think that the flat bags the post office uses to put collector stamp sheets in that is less opaque than wax/waxed paper, is glassine, or close to what I remember as glassine. (and I AM old--59! lol)
Don't know what glassine would be for crafting, though.
What is it used for in stamping?

Tigeriss, if you live in College Station I will be happy to give you a roll or two! We have a Lifetime Supply of wax paper (three rolls of it is a little much for a household that uses about 4 feet a year). Actually you said you went to Mikes so I know you're not here in town.

Re: waxed vs wax paper. According to the box of wax paper on the top of our giant stack, it is wax and not waxed paper. I checked this a few weeks ago because I thought it was waxed but so many folks say wax. I was wrong!

Goodness, my 'x' key hasn't gotten so much use since I sent my DH hugs and kisses in emails!

Glasseine is different than waxed paper. When I worked for a photographer, we used the glasseine envelopes to store the negatives in. I am not 100% sure, but i think it might be acid free, that based on postage stamp collectors do use it to keep their stamps. As far as what you would use if for in stamping I have no idea.

I've heard of glassine being used for envelopes in cardmaking and sbooking (either to put the card in, or to tuck an embellishment into a tiny envelope). I've also heard of it being used for covering windows punched into cards, kind of a semi-translucent option instead of overhead plastic sheets.

Another golden oldie checking in about wax paper.

Remember taking it to the park and sitting on it to go down the slide? It made the slide so slick!

I know what wax paper is too! Grandma used it to wrap mine and grandpa's sandwiches in for our fishing trips

Default Wax paper n glassine paper

I thought I'm the only one that didn't know what wax paper is and where to buy it :p I'm new to rubber stamping (started last Nov 06)) and moved to States 2 yrs ago..so not familiar with the word"wax paper and stump/tortillons"

I went to Joann and asked this lady where I could find wax paper and stump. She didn't know what they were. She started telling me about wax candles and sealing wax, but was clueless as to what I asked.

Then I went to Michaels' and asked for the same. Three different people were clueless as to what I was talking about. They asked what I was going to do with it, but still didn't know. I asked a guy in Michaels' that helped me find OMS last time, but he was clueless as to what wax paper was as well. He asked someone else and was told that they didn't carry it, but they had parchment paper(so..?). We did find the stump though for 6 different sizes/$1.99.

I got a newsletter from marthastewart.com today. I went to the site and tried to find glassine paper. Her site tells you things you can do what that paper.

Anyway..thank you all for your responses. I really appreciate it! :-D

Just had to post. This made me smile all the way through it. I'm 32 but I know what Wax paper is.... it's what mom had us put over our plates when we were warming up food in the microwave so it wouldn't splatter everywhere! ;) (besides pressing leaves, flowers and shaving crayons on it!)

Wax paper is also great if you have metal rods in your closet. Rub it over the rod and your clothes hangers will slide easily without any squeaks. When I worked in a clothing retail store we did this all the time.

I forgot about the usefulness of wax paper when dry embossing on paper! This totally reminded me.

I was in Target recently, looking for SaniFlush. I had to repeat 3x's as the young girl didn't even understand what I was saying. Then she asked what it was used for (ROTFL). She asked another young man if they carried it and he didn't have a clue either. Must be a generation thing

No way! Maybe you can get away with saying you're old if you helped your great grandkids melt crayon shavings in between sheets of wax paper, but otherwise we're all young punks! I vote Garnet for Head Punk.

Me too - because I can't remember why we did that or what we used the melted wax for!

Can someone remind me? Ha ha!

When we did it in grade school, we made a frame out of construction paper and gave the 'framed wax art' to one of our parents for Mother's/Father's Day. We had piles of shredded crayon to choose from and the wax art made from two or three colours looked cool. I couldn't decide on just two or three and had to grab a little of each -- a little less cool looking in retrospect!

I am sure I did something similar too. LOL - I have crayons and wax paper at home, think I should make some 'art' tonight? Ha ha!

Now I'm only 27 and I know about wax paper. Saniflush, on the other hand, not a clue. It did make me giggle that the craft store people didn't know what wax paper was. Maybe the snooty-tooties aren't shouldn't act so snooty-tooty. While we're talking wax paper, is it okay to put in the oven?
TIA. God bless.

I think you can - but you might want to look at the box first to see if there's any instructions or maximum heat settings, etc.

I've used parchment paper in the oven - it's a different consistency than wax paper, but it does have a bit of waxy feel to it.

Yes, you can use it in the oven. I have done so several times. It is great to line a baking dish.

I had to read this because when I moved away from the midwest after college in 1998 I had a hard time finding wax paper at any grocery or discount store. I called my Dad to see if they had stop making it or if he could still buy it in our hometown. Sure enough, our store had plenty. He had to send me some.

I'd be careful putting wax paper in the oven. You'll more than likely have wax go everywhere. If you're thinking to cook with it - I'd say NO. It'll make whatever's on it taste and smell like crayons.

What? I've done it a bunch of times and never had a problem.
