You'll love it! I use Basecamp quite often because it is such a clean, classic font. (Makes great Monograms too. . .) I have preordered the new Opposites Attract because it has a clean san-serif font AND a script font on the same cartridge. I also preordered the Walk in the Garden cartridge because I adore flowers and use the same three all of the time. . . I have Tags, Bags, Boxes, and More, but most of the boxes, while super-cute, are not very large even at their largest size. It also has several shapes that I have no idea what are supposed to be used for. But the four or so that I use, I like. If you have Doodletype, you may not need Basecamp, but Basecamp is more clean and squared than Doodletype. Look at all of the alphas and shape cartridges on the Cricut site, including the new ones that will be out this month or next. You really can live with just George until you decide what you REALLY want. (That sounded, um, bad. George is a cartridge, for all of you who are wondering. . .) Doodlecharms appeals to me somewhat, but not enough to buy it yet because I don't know that I'd actually use it. The new baby cartridge has some cool features, but regrettably, my baby days are past--can't justify it. I don't know if I talked you INTO or OUT OF cartridges, but that's my 2 cents. Have fun!
I almost forgot--get plenty of extra mats. You will go through them faster than you go through blades. (I tried painting Aleene's Tack and Tack it over on a used up mat, but that made it too sticky. . .)
Be sure to get the tool kit. It has a little tool in it that makes it super easy to get your die cuts off of the mat. I love the Tags, Bags, Boxes and More cartridge because several of the boxes and bags, when cut at 5.5 will hold the 3x3 cards perfectly. The Christmas cartridge is great and I also love the Jasmine and Stamped font cartridges. All of these things are on sale at www.joanns.com right now for 20% off and free shipping if you get over $25 in merchandise. You will also want to have extra mats and blades on hand. You are going to love your Cricut.
Hi all. Say, before you go to the J shop please look at this from another thread:
I just preoredered two of the new cartridges from a Kim Slaymaker, [email protected], and here was her pricelist:
Cartridges $55 (all in stock)
Tool kits $17.50
Blades & mats $7 per 2 pack package
Tote $60 Have to be ordered, I dont have room to store these. =0)
Trimmer $7
Trimmer blades per two pack $3
I have not gotten anything yet, but she has a good reputation on the Cricut Yahoo group.
I just bought my Cricut from Kim and she is WONDERFUL!! :p
Her prices are much better then the J shop even if she does have to ship them to you plus you won't be paying tax. And... she's one of us!
I thank everyone for your help in which cartridges I should look at getting and what else is needed.

Debbie, where did you preorder the new cartridges at?
I was going to say the same thing as was posted right above your post--Kim [email protected].
I have not received the preordered cartrideges because they are not out yet, but I have checked her feedback, and she has a good reputation--good enough that I was willing to Paypal her the money--KWIM? ;)
Plus, if I order from her I don't pay sales tax AND I get them cheaper than JoAnn's. She charges exact shipping too. I *think* I'll be happy with her, but I'll certainly post later if I am wrong about that! (I live in the boonies two hours from a Michael's or JoAnn's, so I'm not tempted to just drop in and try to use a coupon. . .)
I am VERY happy with Kim. She is wonderful. I paid her via Paypal for my Cricut machine and she had it to me within a week! :p I know I will go back to her for all of my supplies. I just need to know what to get.
Are there anymore idea's on what I should get or any tips? I am trying to search all threads for all the tips but my DH keeps making me get off the computer

I have been ordering from Kim for months. She is top notch and gets the items you order shipped out right away. I am awaiting the new Opposites Attract cartridge also.. can't wait to get it!

Denise, I'm pretty sure Kim charges $175 for the machine. That's what my friend's was, and she just got it today. HTH!
That's interesting to me, because my sister works at a scrapbook store and they had to sign a contract saying they wouldn't sell the Cricut for less than $249.99. I wonder how that works. I got mine for $249.99 from Joanne, and when I searched to try and find a better deal, dozens and dozens of stores had it for the same price, but not one had it for less. It would almost be worth sending mine back and reordering from this other gal if there's really a $75 difference! I could buy another cartridge with the difference.
As far as cartridges, I got Stamped and I really like it a lot. It's bigger than George, and easier to work with. I like the rugged look of it. As the mother of three boys, I need all the rugged I can get!! I can get really neat hearts out of it by choosing different sizes and the shadow feature, and I'm not generally a heart person! I use the shadow feature with George a lot because it's so fine it's hard to work with if I don't. I make a lot of the flowers with George and will probably get the garden one if it has flowers. No more buying endless bottles of Primas and punches to get the flowers I want!
You need space for it (currently on my dining room table!); money for mats and cartridges, the took kit is really worth it and time to use it. I have yet to get all of these things in one place at the same time!! LOL

If you go to an actual Joann's store they have the cartridges (and all their other scrappin/stampin stuff) for 40% off today and tomorrow! I was there this morning and they had a sign that says Cricut is excluded, but the cartridges rang up at 40% off. If you get their flier you can also use the $5 off coupon for this weekend on it too!
