I have the old sizzix machine and would love to replace it with something newer and more versatile (I really want to get something that will do embossing!). Does anyone have any suggestions? I Should also say that I have quite a bit of money invested in Sizzix alphabets. Do I start over? Or is there something I can get that will incorporate the old with the new? TIA!

I must admit that since I got my Big Shot I have not used my old sizzix. However just the other day I saw that you can use the old sizzix to stamp. So I am going to keep mine. If I can find the link on how to do that, I will post it. Upgrade to a Big Shot so you can still use all of the dies you have and the Big Shot can be used for other types of dies as well. Hold on to your old sizzix.
ditto to the last posting...I love my big shot and can use all my sizzix stuff as well as my big shot and cuttlebug stuff too...yeah...keep your old red sizzix...cause you can still use it for other things...I use mine with my cuttlebug embossing folders to emboss chipboard and even mat board...its too thick to use in my big shot...but works great with the old red sizzix...
hugs, Debbie
I have my old sizzix (which can emboss as long as you have the converter, it works especially well with the cuttlebug embossing folders)... but I love my new cuttlebug. It's lighter and easier to use. I can use my old sizzix dies in the cuttlebug and it works great!
I'm saving for the Pazzle machine. When I get it my sizzix dies are going to ebay. If you haven't seen it check it out it's a little $$$$$ but you don't have to buy carts for it. You can check it out at HSN they have a video on it.

I vote for the BIGkick (basically the same as the BigShot). It can use everyting Sizzix, Cuttlebug and many other manufacturer's dies and embossing tools. It's much sturdier than the Cuttlebug and has just a tad wider base too.
Today my dh surprised me with a Cricut. Wow ... what a great guy! Only thing is, he didn't realize that you can't emboss with it and that is what I really wanted a machine for. We can return the Cricut for a refund if we wish. If we decided to keep it I would like to know if the Circut can cut small enough shapes to use on cards?
I want to purchase a machine that will emboss. I've read that the Wizzard gives a deeper embossed impression that the Cuddlebug and will except CB embossing folders.
Can anyone tell me who sells the Wizzard? A google search hasn't helped me.

MANY THANKS! I'm off to their website to do some research.

Is there any difference between the Big Shot and the Big Kick? They look like they have the same capabilities but just a slightly different style...is that right or am I missing something?

Exact same machine, just different colors (and I believe the basic pkgs include some slightly different items, too)
One more question...can I use my Sizzix original (thick) dies in any other machine besides a Sizzix BigKick or BigShot? Or would I be limited to those two options?

Thanks, Gale, for the answer to my Cricut questions and also for the Marcopaper web site.

I agree 100%. I still love my Sizzix. The embossing folers are the bomb. I have two originals alpha Fun Sherif and lollipop. I continue to use them often even though I have a CRICUT and a cazillion stickers alpha;s

my dh surprised me with a bigkick for Christmas - and I promptly sold my old red sizzix on Craigslist. I love my big kick! It does everything the my old sizzix did and more because of the wider base. And I find it easier to use the cuttlebug embossing folders with it because the crank mechanism gives even pressure to the entire folder. Love it! I bought some other manufactures dies to use in it -- nestabilities -- and it works very well.

Did someone actually buy your old sizzix? Because I am thinking it is an antique at this point! :p Many thanks for the idea to post it on Craig's List. Right now I am leaning towards a BigKick (with a coupon it might just fit into my budget!)
Many thanks to all for the great advice...happy crafting!

I have a Big Kick but still can't part with my old Sizzix. I still use it when I just want a quick die cut. So much easier than making the whole "sandwich" thing. I also like it for my Nestabilities because there is no chance of the die slipping around in the sandwich. Works fine for Nesties. So I don't think I will ever part with my old Sizzix machine.
Here I am, trying to "revive" an older thread - but here goes
How exactly do you use the nestabilites with the old red Sizzix? I don't know how to emboss. . . I've had the nesties for about 3 months now and haven't used them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a tan embossing mat on the way but I'm unsure of how to put this together. Any help would be appreciated !!
Oh, Gale - thank you sooo much. I had seen that chart and like a Bozo I forgot where it was !!!!!!!! PS LOVE your Chloe pic !!!!! We sure miss her, don't we?
I use the two clear acrylic plates that came with my Side Kick. I would love to have one piece but haven't gotten around to that so I use the two plates side by side over the nestability die instead of those small adapter things.
I love my old sizzix because it doesn't use so many plates. Cutting chip board and mat board is my favorite thing to use it for. I have 3 in my class room at school and the students haven't damaged them at all.
I used, and use, my old sizzix all the time. I did buy a Big Shot (at half-price) when I found out the newer sizzix dies would not fit in the old system. I didn't buy a Cuttlebug because I can use the old sizzix for everything I have for the cuttlebug. I did have a problem with one of the 2 x 6 dies from Cuttlebug running it through my Big Shot, but I think, from what I've read here, I put the die in upside down. There is an adapter for the old sizzix that I use for the many "older" Quick Kutz dies I have. A friend of mine told me she already had the older Ellison Big Shot and she used it all the time for cuttlebug. I also own a Cricut -- so sometimes it isn't always beneficial to buy everything new they come out with. There is always something bigger and better in the future. Thankfully, you can interchange most of these or I think the suppliers would have a lot of people really upset otherwise.
I still have my old red sizzix and love it. I have about 19 CB embossing folders and some smaller ones and use it in there all the time. MUCH faster than the CB machine. Don't have to put it between anything. LOL Just leave my converter in and go to town.
I just retired my old Sizzix machine. I bought a Cuttlebug for $35.00 from Scrapbook Express.com. It is an amazing machine. Depending on the combination of plates it comes with, you can cut traditional Sizzix dies, Sizzlets, Nestabilities,(as well as emboss Nestabilities), Quickutz and Quickutz Revolution dies. I think it about covers all the dies that are out there. I got it and just LOVE it!!
I got an original sizzix last year at Michaels on clearance for $3.00. It's the best bargain I've ever gotten. Of course I had to buy other stuff to use with it, but I've been getting stuff with coupons. I've enjoyed all the suggestions on this thread. I have a cuttlebug, too, and like it, but the old sizzix is a real workhorse. Eileen

I recently got the Big Shot, but old red will live in my closet and travel to crops with me because it takes less room to operate. I use my Sizzix all the time - can't imagine being without it! The CB folders work great!

Could any Wizzard machine users share how they sandwich the cutting, embossing and spacer plates with the Cuddlebug embossing folders? Thanks!

I bought an old Sizzix off ebay just for this reason - to stamp evenly. This site will not let me post a link so go to stampinkub.com/blog/?p=270
Another vote for the Big Shot. After comparing all the others, JullieHRR recommended that one on her blog so I got it. It will cut all types of dies so you don't have to get rid of anything. Besides, the new ones are black and pink with a cute little jewel!

Hello...so here's a question: How do I use the old Sizzix 'originals' dies in a BigKick or a BigShot? I can't seem to find any instructions on how to make an 'original Sizzix die sandwich.'
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I am LOL that I can actually answer this question! That is how much research I have done on this subject...I am such a stamping geek!
With the Big Kick, Use the clear plate on the bottom, red sizzix (thick) die on top, red side down, paper, then the other clear plate as the top piece of 'bread'. Do not use the platform with the thick dies. Happy cutting!

That is exactly what I needed to know. Glad you're a stamping geek

Soooo...some nice person emailed me instructions on how to use the nesties in the OLD sizzix machine but it took me so long to get the Nesties that my email is gone :(
I just use the nesties face down on the white platform with the paper under to cut in my old sizzix. I put the magnetic converter on and then just use the acrylic plates from my old Sidekick on top of the die and cut the die. then I flip it over with the paper still in it and put the tan polymer mats over the die and the acrylic plates again to emboss. I have read here that some people have had acrylic plates cut to fit the machine but I haven't gotten around to doing that yet. Works fine for me.
