Dani, you are very welcome. The reason I thought of this ruler as a solution for you is because it has an open line along the middle of the length of the ruler that's about 1/8" wide and so a pencil lead will fit, so you can make dots in a straight line while eyeballing the measurements for your dotting intervals. Plus it can do a few other things as well. xoxo

I would use the piercing template that is just rows of dots. Mark them or very lightly pierce them and you have some very evenly spaced dots in straight lines.
Something like the Tim Holtz design ruler might help - you could make a pencil dot through the holes you want and then add your white dot where there's a pencil mark. That way you'd have the straight line provided by the ruler and the spacing provided by the holes. His demo is here if you've not seen it before and I think you'll find them in lots of online stores if you don't have anywhere local that carries them Welcome to Timholtz.com
I have this thing and am surprised how much I use it. And I have every tool on the market ;)
I use this thing for punching holes for brads, trimming my matted card stock (it has grids all over it), cutting with craft blades, figuring out dimensions - I do a lot with this thing. It was a good buy considering all the things it will do.
If I didn't have a stencil to drop dots evenly, I would use this ruler and an engineering pencil to mark off the dots.
Yay my ruler came in yesterday. I can not wait to use it. I will be using it tonight when I make my R card for the Alphabet Challenge. From the looks of it I think it will work perfect!! Thank you so much for sharing this tool with me.
Dani, use a sharpie marker to mark a line on the plastic canvas....then mark cross lines the distance apart you want/like to make your dots. Use a hole punch the size you want the dots to be and punch on the intersection of the two lines.....then you have a template that is permanent and the size you want

Hello ladies, I finally made a card and used the clear ruler for the dots. I think it is better however they still look lopsided to me. What do you think?

Your card is great; the world is lopsided.
Question though, since you're as "focused" as I'd be. : ) What are you using to make your dots? If you used premade ones, you could very gently put them down, stand up so you're over them, put the ruler above them if you want, and use a tool to push/adjust them.

Thank you. The world is lopsided I agree. lol I use acrylic paint and a stylus. You know I believe someone else told me to do the dots standing up, however, I forgot about it. I am glad you mentioned that I am going to try it next time. I will share with you how it turns out.
I think because of how paint comes off the brush or whatever tool you use, it would be really hard to attain absolute perfection. (Though perfection is a little boring, don't you think?)
You might want to try pre-made dots or something like Perfect Pearls? But even with Perfect Pearls, it's quite hard for me to make identical sized dots, though placement is easier than with paint - at least for me. So I might make them different sizes on purpose. : )

I really do need to stop trying to make things perfect. Because if they look perfect it surely doesn't look hand made. I may try the perfect pearls.

Dani, your card is lovely. I've found that making cards has taken a little bit of the "perfect" gene out of me, and I'm the better for it.
Here is a quote I like: "Good enough is good enough."
I always remember those tags that used to come on clothing made of silk. "The little imperfections in this fabric are not flaws. Natural fabric comes with imperfections and that is part of the beauty of the fabric."

I like that quote and I like the tag saying. I will have to remember that. Thanks and thank you for the compliment on my card.
Hello everyone. I just wanted to share that I have posted page 6 to my page a day book blog. I hope you will all follow along and let me know what you think. Hugs and Prayers...I am going to go grill steaks now.
Thanks Vickie. I did finally purchase the ruler that has the holes all the way across it. However, I am glad you mentioned taping it down because maybe that would help keep the ruler from slanting. Thank you for that awesome idea.
They make grippers for rulers (for quilting); they are little dots or circles that you put on the bottom of your ruler so it doesn't move on the fabric. You could try some of these on your rulers.
Mary, I bought the grippers you linked to. They're terrific - they add barely any height. Plus I often use a cheap, plastic t-square to visually line things up, and because of how the "t" is attached, the other end doesn't lie perfectly flat on the paper. (CLear as mud?)
Putting a gripper on the ruler end (opposite the "t" end) leveled the ruler.
Thank you!
P.S. I love your dog photo.

I missed that post. Mary thank you for sharing that link. What a wonderful idea. Are those just the little round circles that you put on paper in a 3 ring binder? Probably not huh? They must have something on them so that they don't slide around.
They're a different material than notebook paper reinforcements - the barest bit thicker (I think?) and rubbery, so they'll make a ruler or anything else you want to stick them on non-slip. I have reinforcements and they wouldn't prevent sliding. : )

Thank you for letting me know. I am ordering these because no matter what I try to do my ruler ends up slanted which of course makes my dots slanted as well. Thanks again.
