They have gone up but they have changed the contents too. The old kits had 4 sheets of single sided paper - the new ones have 6 sheets of double sided paper. Also the solid colored cardstock is textured.
Wow I did not know other countries paid so much more. Also did not realize there was so much extra in the pack. Thanks for letting me know. I have only gotten to see the catty online and it is hard to get info from there. My demo is out of town on vaca :(. I really like the Halloween designer paper wish there was a simply scrappin kit to accompany it!
I have compared at my LSS. To get a coordinated kit like that (sometimes they sell them to make a few pages) costs upwards of $25-and that is with only 1 sheet of the cutouts-not 2 of each design.
While I was at first surprised about the increase, once I went in and compared at my LSS (again looking at coordinating paper from the same line so it would match, the textured cardstock, and cardstock stickers) I think SU! is in line with high quality sb kits.

I honestly experienced sticker shock with a lot of things in this catalog. The Canadian prices were always high, and they didn't go up that much, but I've been buying lots of sets online from other companies and I guess I've become used to the great currency rate. I don't know how much I'll be buying from SU this time, other than paper and ink, because I can get so much more for my dollar by shopping elsewhere. Too bad really.
No- I wouldn't pay that much and I certainly wouldn't pay the Canadian prices, but it seems that Canadians expect things to be based on the conversion rate of the American dollar- and there is so much more than that involved. It costs a lot to run an international business due to all the regulations involved- having to compile with whatever business laws you might have, retaining lawyers who can practice in that country- to me it's not just the cost of product and shipping. :( Sorry your prices are so high- but stampin' up isn't the only company out there. If you love it, you'll pay it- if you think it's too expensive, move on.
Okay, I to was in shock with the kit, however I didn't realize that the paper was double sided and textured. That would make a big difference. There are a couple in there that I would like to get.

Well aren't you polite....you forgot to mention the duty costs and the costs for the brokerage firms that US companies have to employ. Either way the cost is usually higher in Canada MOSTLY due to the dollar difference, and with our dollar closing in on the US dollar, we have a reasonable expectation that some of the gap be closed.
If this is meant to be sarcastic- I apologize, I certainly wasn't intending to be rude- just throwing something else out there to think about.

But if the cost of the dollar in Canada is rising- so are all the expenses for an American company operating in Canada- so they couldn't close that gap as easily as one would like.
Inego,
Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry to say that I found the final remark to be unfriendly in the least and I think the OP could have been a little more diplomatic. Nothing like encouraging our country to support the US. (and that is sarcasm). Even if there are all these costs, last year SU was able to adjust their prices to reflect the exchange rate and with it better this year, I would have expected our catalog prices to remain steady, which would have reflected an increase in costs as well.
We have had a LOT of discussion on the demo side about these prices. I wanted to share what Belinda shared with everyone...
Why are the SS kits so expensive?
OLD KITS:
4 sheets single sided paper = $1.50
8 sheets 12x12 cardstock = $2.78
6 sheets self-adhesive die cuts = $10.61
**die cuts price is based on the price of the accents & elements in the Winter Mini, the square inches of the die cut sheets, and figuring the tins as worth $2
Cost = $12.95
Total value = $14.89
Total savings = $1.94
NEW KITS:
6 sheets double sided paper = $4.98
8 sheets 12x12 textured cardstock = $3.98
6 sheets self-adhesive die cuts = $15.96
*die cuts price is based on the price of the accents & elements in the F/W catty, the square inches of the die cut sheets, and figuring the tins as worth $2
Cost = $19.95
Total value = $24.92
Total savings = $4.97
We're actually getting a *better* deal on the kits... The cost of printing the self-adhesive die cuts went up (announcement on SU website on January 9th under Current Updates), the textured card stock adds value, there are more sheets of patterned paper plus it's double-sided.
Then the discussion went to comparing the new SS kits to ones found to be in the store...and Belinda responded:
Okay, apples to oranges then!
Kit includes 6 sheets of paper (no card stock)
3 (smaller) sheets of stickers...
Another comparison? From the same store (after looking around for same-type-product, and these probably wouldn't even coordinate with each other!)
8 sheets textured cardstock... $3.60
6 sheets double-sided paper... $4.50
6 sheets cardstock stickers ... $17.36
(for same sq inches of stickers, $1.99 per sheet of 5.5" x 9")
Total price... $25.46
PLUS all the time you'd have to put into trying to find items that coordinate with each other... with SU, that work is done for you!
So, check out the figures...we were getting a great deal on the kits, they have been both enlarged and improved...we are STILL getting a great deal on the kits!
