I think the most popular brand for card making and scrapbooking is the Janome Sew Mini. I bought mine from Hancock Fabrics when they were on sale and had it shipped to my house. It came really quickly, and I paid less than $50 including shipping. I love it, and can't imagine my card-making life without it!
I am looking at buying the Janome Sew Mini Machine but I've read reviews that say it only works on very light fabrics. Does anyone know if it will stitch cardstock??

I have five sewing machines. One is a serger, embroidery machine, DH's collector treadle, DH's regular machine and my Janome sew mini. I adore the Janome Sew Mini and I wish I bought it a long time ago. It's a perfect little machine for paper crafting, light sewing and mending.
I rarely sew on cards, but I've been saving old sewing needles for my fancy Bernina for years - which I now use on cardstock. It's in a another room, but like I said, I don't sew on cards alot!
It took awhile for me to decide what size needle I needed for cards and what tension, but it works great! I figured if I can sew leather on my Bernina, I can sure sew CS!
I would love a Janome sew mini for my crafting room!
Thanks to all the recommendations on this thread for the Janome Sew Mini. I just had my machine delivered this morning! Bit nervous about using it for the first time though..
Presumably the size 14 needle that it comes with is suitable for use on cardstock?
That's probably a little big. You can use it, just make sure you lengthen the stitch length, otherwise you could just perforate the area that you intend to stitch!

Thanks! I will give it a go with this needle size when I get home from work (don't think boss be too pleased if I get the sewing machine out on my desk!
Any ideas for an affordable sewing machine in Canada. I have searched for the Janome sew mini, and it is not available anywhere I have found in Canada.
