Default Is it safe to clean stamps with alcohol?

Some of my stamps (su!) were stained with Staz-on, and I saw that you could clean them with alcohol. Yes, it took it off, but made the rubber lighter. ?

Yes, with the caveat that you condition them afterward. Using alcohol will dry out and make the rubber brittle. I avoid it at all costs.

I clean stained stamps with Staz-On cleaner. I buy it at Hobby Lobby or Michael's. I'm sure there are lots of places that sell it. For badly stained stamps I have let the cleaner "sit" for several hours. It has always worked and does not dry the stamps out. I don't use alcohol either because of the damage to the rubber.

I've heard you can use versamark to clean them. You stamp the versamark on the stamp and let sit overnight. It really does work on some stains. Not sure how well it will work with Stazon since I only have one of those and I always clean my stamps immediately.

It also depends on the types of stamps that you're cleaning. For example - if you're using stamps made by Kitchen Sink Stamps - she recommends alcohol for cleaning. Then just rinse them off with water.

This cleaner (link provided to show photo) has worked wonders for me on stamps so stained you'd have thought the rubber was black and not red:

JudiKins Permanent Ink Cleaner 2 Oz. - product summary - Bing Shopping

It has a bit of an odor but (imo) not worse than StazOn cleaner and it works better for older stains.

The VersaMark tip also works and I read awhile ago that the now-retired YoYo Yellow from SU worked like a charm.

I try to have two bottles (one in my traveling tote and one on my desk).

HTH and good luck!

Ultra Clean has taken Staz-On off my rubber. I love that cleaner!

Another vote for ultra-clean. I hate the smell and the greasy feel, so I keep it for when StazOn cleaner hasn't done the job, and for clear stamps if they really, really need more than just a baby wipe (StazOn cleaner not recommended for most clear stamps). But for all I don't like the smell and feel, I wouldn't be without it for the times I need it .
Warning - it's a spray, and more than once I've got a bit of spray on a card or paper that was on the table underneath - to be avoided!!
