Default Pop dots??

I've been using foam squares and circles that I get from ACM for 3D elements or dimensional layers, but I am just not happy with the way it looks. I think the foam stickers are too thick, and I don't like that you can see the foam too much from the side. The package says they are an 1/8" thick, are there thinner ones?
What are you all using?

I use the SU dimensionals as well. If you cut them in half you can get 600+ per pack instead of 300.

I use a HUGE roll of scotch foam tape I bought, I just cut it to whatever size. I got my HUGE roll at Costco. You can get smaller rolls in the office stuff section of any store, I think they sell huge rolls at the big office chains too. Anyhow it's 1/16th thick. I use a LOT of foam tape.

Another vote for the SU dimensionals. They give just the right amount of "pop-up," and they are very easy to cut if you need a smaller size!

If you want to stretch the SU dimentionals even farther, you can cut the edging/backing into small pieces as required. Nothing to throw away in the end except the part it is stuck to. Can't beat that for no wasteage.

I have tried so many "pop" dots and hands down the Stampin' UP! ones are the best in my opinion... I add a pack to nearly every order I place, sometimes two. They are so worth it.. I use the parts around the edges too.. I don't waste nothing.. I recycle the paper inside the pack, and reuse the bag as well.. Pam

I too use SU dimensionals. The price is reasonable and I like the size and thickness.

I've used SU dimensionals, too and love them, but I ran out one weekend and found pop dots by All Night Media. They are very comparable - 1/16".

Does anyone else use foam tape? Are you happy with the brand and the price? I like the idea of cutting the tape to the size I need.

If you have a local Dollar Tree check for their foam squares. They come in 2 sizes and you get a TON for only $1.

I like glue dots. They come in different sizes to suit the need, are almost clear so you don't see the white of the foam pieces many people use.

I agree with KatarinaM, any of the foam dots or tape are too thick and are visable from a side view of the project. I also find the compress after time in an envelope.

It is probably no help to you but here in the UK we can get different depths of 'pop dots' or 3d foam as we call it, so I am sure you must be able to get it in the US, we also can get them in black or white. A tip I do sometimes is if from the side there is to much white showing from the dots, I use a marker and colour the edges of my dots to tone into my design...makes them blend in more.

Great idea Jukie!

I bought some dots from HL the other day that were 1/16 thick...and they were 1/4 inch circles and 1/8 inch circles (for those itty bitty pop ups). Brand was Paper studio. I like the 1/16 thickness better for most everything. But the 1/8 inch is better for shakers.

Here in Ontario I buy foam tape at the Dollarama - thin profile(1/16) comes 1/2" wide. They also have pkgs. of 2 sheets of squares, circles or rectangle foam. I love the foam tape as it can be cut any size and is VERY sticky!

Another vote for SU here. I saw someone recommend pressing your fingernail sharply into the paper backing to ease removal. Great help! I had some square foam dimensionals from a scrapping kit purchased at HL and they were so AWFUL I threw them away, and I save almost everything! The SU ones are so much nicer, and I use the edges for all kinds of things. I bought some nice ones at HL but there was a lot of waste because of how they were made.

I'm with Erin with the Scotch foam. Didn't realize I could get it at Costco! I use it for everything and like the fact that I can cut it any size. I also like the height which I believe is a bit higher than SU Dimentionals, which I like. Also it doesn't squoosh down when it goes through the mail.

What are you all using?

I use 3M foam mounting tape. You can buy it in many thicknesses. I buy a large roll of it and then cut off what I need. In the long run it's cheaper than buying pop dot's.

I mostly use the pop dots from the $store. I like the depth and they are super sticky. I've also used fun foam in a matching colour for pop dots.

I like the SU ones as well...the foam tape that I've used seems too stiff sometimes. You can also layer the SU dimensionals on top of each other if you want a taller "pop".

I've used a bunch of different kinds.

I like the foam mounting tape if I'm doing shakers because I can do long strips of it.

I've used the EK Success brand, which has 2 sizes of squares, and can be bought in 1/16 and 1/8 inch thicknesses. Usually I run out of the larger squares first--but the small ones are great for adding a butterfly or bumble bee.

My favorite (at least currently!) is the one made by Scrapbook Adhesives. They are 1/2 x 1/2 inch square, but 1/16" thick, and are very high density foam and don't crush as easily. They are hard to find, though, and when I do find them, I'll get a whole handful of packs!

I use Scotch Brand, EK success and the ones from the dollar store. I find the cheaper ones stick better for some reason.

I also noticed that some foam dots are really thick. I also prefer the SU! ones--if you want thick, you can stack them, but if you don't, they are a nice manageable thickness.

Good luck deciding!

I, too love love the Scotch brand foam mounting tape (with the SU ad on the upper right corner) and buy them from Walmart in the Scrapbooking isle.

My goodness I went through so many rolls to make many 3D type projects.

I use almost anything that comes to hand!
Foam tape, pop dots - whatever is closest. Except the Martha Stewart ones - those are horribly thick. And horribly difficult to get in/out of the packaging. One of the things I love bunches is the sticky share that Jody does on her blog. I love the black color & the super sticky!

Totally agree....I ordered from "Jody" during several of the sticky "shares". They are great but for some reason I keep going back to SU! I go through a ton of dimensionals and order 10 packs when I place my orders as I am constantly calling my demo for more. She often keeps extra's just knowing I call periodically when I have not planned and run out!

I like foam tape because it's cheaper and you can customize the size of the piece I will use. I like SU dimensionals because they're not too thick and they're pre-cut (so it helps when I'm in a hurry).
