That was how i stored mine for years, but I had a shelf at each square and labeled it by theme...xmas, baby, school etc. I put a piece of scrap paper underneath with a little pull tab to pull the whole thing out.
But now I have the cubes from acmoore that are the white "wood"....same concept though just looks a bit better....Now my SU pattern paper I store in a 12x12 album so I can just flip through the pages to see what i want to use...
I store mine by color. You can't really see it but in each section I have sets that go together in 12 x 12 plastic bags. I store specific holidays/themes (christmas, easter, baby, sports, etc) in bags on the top shelf. Also, each color section has a divider and I keep the solid colors on the bottom and the printed on the top. So far I can find what I looking for. I also keep all my metallic and sheets I bought for the words on a separate shelf.
If I buy paper for a specific project I keep those in an 12 x 12 iris box in my closet. The project box has the idea/sample and any embellishments or other items that go with the project. Then when I'm ready to make the project I just pull out that particular box. Now, just to find time to make these projects!!
I have the exact same rack you have and it's OK... I do it by color too... but I do all solids in a range... say pink... and on the shelf just above it is all the pink patterned paper etc. What I'm asking for for Christmas is a file cabinet that stores 12 x 12 paper. My local SS sells them for about $80.00 for a 2 drawer unit... but you can get tons of paper in vertical hanging 12 x 12 folders and see it all just looking down. That's what I want as soon as possible. Try searching for file cabinets... I think that's going to work great for me. Hope that helps!

I tried sorting by color, but what do you do if a pattern has more than one color? or for that matter many many colors? The file cabinet sounds good, maybe office max has them.
When a paper has many colors I pick the color I like the best if I can't find a main color. But I have a big problem with remembering to look at the other side on double sided paper.
Scrappingmelisa - maybe you should consider how you like to find thnigs. I tried a file cabinet but it didn't work for me because I didn't like opening and closing the drawers. With the paper racks I can slide out a piece I think I might use and then look for other colors. If I don't like something I can easily slide it back in place. With the file cabinet I'd have to pull it out and then try to match it to something in another drawer and then I'd have a stack to refile and because I'm lazy, I always had a big stack to refile. I also had trouble with paper sagging because if a drawer wasn't filled the hanging racks would separate and let the paper sag. I guess that's why it is so hard to find the one thing that would work. Good Luck!
Since this post I have moved, but I took a picture of my 12x12 PATTERNED PAPER storage... http://tobicrawford.blogspot.com/200...ing-space.html
i have (i have estimated) about 2000 pieces of it. I USED to store it in horizontal containers by brand (and a separate one for Christmas and Hallowe'en) but i had to dig to the bottom when i wanted to look through all my paper, so now i have it on my LSS-style paper rack. I have it grouped by BRAND, and then when I have a lot of the brand (Basic Grey) I sort it by LINE... i like it this way because I think of paper by their manufacturer, not colour, so when I'm looking for a certain style i'll go right to the brand i'm looking for and look through my stash.

Oh Melissa, I love that! I'd be excited to have one But I have heard that it crinkles the edges of the papers - not sure if that has been your experience?
but my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE is this one, that sits on my desk, in the corner out of the way - I love it's durability, the fact that I can put current papers and project in it and it's just too cute, lol. http://www.containerstore.com/browse...51&CATID=71774
All those are Great too! The one i have doesnt wrinkle the paper, its just dark inside of it. The parts are soo close together and deep its hard to see what there is. I rather have a cabinet that opens out towards me. LIke a filing cabinet.

I love your comment about the Clip It up! I think that's one of my favorite gifts I've gotten thus far and it's super handy. My friend, after I was given mine, sent me a link for a homemade clip it up that costs TOTAL under $10! You use an old lampshade and some clips - I'll have to dig around for the link and post when I find it. It's 2 cool 4 words!
Kelly the last one you listed sells for 49 dollars. Is it worth 50 bucks for the few shelves? I really like it but heck you would need many of these if you wanted to put all your paper in them and that would cost a small fortune.

I don't have room to store my paper flat, and when I did have it stored flat I hated it, just a messy nightmare. My papers would get bent from me pulling it out of the middle...etc, etc.... so I just bought the Cropper Hopper vertical paper holders (they have many sizes) from Hobby Lobby and they fit on a shelf ( : takes much less room, imho...
I use the vertical cropper hopper files, too. Just juggled a few around last week and here is my current system:
SU color families
SU neutrals, in colors, vellum, current designer series papers
holidays (divided by season), with a section for "misc. weird stuff")
geometrics, shappy chic, Basic Grey
SEI (have tons of it)
florals
So far, I can find what I am looking for. I really like the files and to go to a crop it is easy just to grab my SU ones.
Good luck! We sure spend a lot of time shopping for papers then figuring out what to do with all of them!

Another vote for croper hopper.I've had my paper stored every which way and this is the best way yet. I use the 12 x 12 holder and insert what they call paper files. It covers the entire page so you don't get bent edges*(which I hate). HTH!

Patrina, I hadn't seen the files....sounds like a great idea for glitter papers, vellum, and "fragile" papers...thanks for the idea!
Please give me ideas on you store yours. Please keep in mind I have VERY little room, Ideally I would like to put up shelves or get a bookcase..?
HELP.

I struggled with this for so long! I keep my CS in hanging file folders with the 'scraps' in a portfolio by color. But DSP ... a whole nother monster!
I finally hit on Craftkeepers by Generations. 10 per pack - around $8.50 w/ Mikes coupon. Each DSP collection gets it's own home. All the little scraps get housed w/ their original family - I love it!
Like you, I'm in a very little room - 10x10. Vertical storage is a must. I keep all my DSP filled Craftkeepers in a 9' glass-fronted cabinet (gotta love Ikea!). I can rifle through them and can find just the set I need. Scrap management is key for me, and the Craftkeepers work really well for this.

Patterned paper is my biggest organizational challenge. I have some stored in those plastic envelopes that have that string closure. I have some stored in the "wooden" cube organizers and some stored in CH vertical thingies.
I don't really care for ANY of these. I want to get a couple of the CIS file cubes for 12x12 paper, but I've been holding off for some reason that I can't figure out.
I also want the triple shelving units from best scrapbooking storage with the tilted paper racks.
<sigh> All this fuss and I don't even use PP all that much LOL~
I use something similar to this from cropper hopper, but the model I have must be discontinued. It was one of the original cropper hopper hard plastic 12 x 12 "cases". It fits perfectly in the metal rolling cart plus it has a lid to keep out the dust, etc. Space is kinda tight and it is in the way sometimes.
Now a couple of years ago, I bought some scrapbook store type paper holders from Novel Crafts. The price was good and the shipping was low. I tried looking up their website but found nothing, so I am guessing they are out of business. I do like my wire shelving best though cause I use what I have since its easy to see.
If I get a chance today, I will take a picture of my paper storage.
Another vote for the cropper hopper vertical storage system. I just recently reorganized mine. I used to store a lot by manufacturer but found that in some cases that just wasn't working well for me. I realized that I tend to think by color so now I store most of my patterned paper by color in the wide vertical storage containers. A few colors that I don't have a lot of are together in the same container to minimize sagging. There are a few manufacturers that I kept seperated because I tend to think of them because I want their "Look" like Basic Grey, SEI, Chatterbox, Doodlebug. If I bought a line of paper with the intention of using it together for a page or mini-album I put them in the Cropper Hopper Page Planner plastic folder. I also have some of the small Cropper Hopper vertical storage folders that I use for categories like: Grandchildren, Sports, Halloween, Christmas, Heritage, Tropical. The catagories I use hit my "Hot" spots that I tend to buy specific papers for. This system sounds a little haphazzard but it clues in to how I think so it's really working pretty well for me.
