I just rec'd my Wizard today and I cannot get it to work. When I use the mats as described in the instructions, the "sandwich" will not go through the machine, at all. It is too thick!

Any suggestions? What is the trick?
You need to engage the rollers by giving them a little "push" with the flat part of your hand while they are just partially loaded. Here is a link to a great tutorial by Stacy Caron (the President of Spellbinders) using the Wizard with Spellbinders dies:
I had the same problem you described when I first got my Wizard. I called Spellbinders, and actually talked to Stacey. She talked me through it, and it works fine now. I just needed to get used to it feeling 'tight' when it starts to pass thru.
Getting the sandwich engaged is key, as is holding the sandwich into the rollers with your left hand. It looks really subtle in the videos, but this part really helped me. Just put the fingers of your left hand at the top of the plates and your left thumb on top of the roller and hold it as you start to crank it through.
I hope these tips help. Good luck!

Robin, did you get the new raspberry Wizard or an older model? I bought one of the older ones since I didn't feel like waiting for the raspberry recall to go through.
I had the same problem and it turns out I was using the universal adapter plate instead of the spacer plate thing. I only mention this in case you have the older model. Just make sure you're using the right sandwich!! Spellbinder's website has tips on that.
I found that mine was really tight at first. After working with it for a few days (& threatening it with a trip to the dump) it loosened up (or maybe I finally got the hang of it?). Don't give up is my advice. Keep trying sandwiches.
This thread makes me feel better. I thought last night I was going to have to pitch my Wizard across the room because I couldn't get the Sizzix die to go through following the directions. I have watched the video on UTube, but will check out the Spellbinders site and keep trying. Thanks!

I emailed Spellbinders and they said I need to use the magnetic spacer plate instead of the white as shown in the directions and in the video. This works! I love these dies!!
I got a raspberry Wizard after the recall. I have never - NOT EVER - been able to get a sandwich to go through if I use the square spacer plate. I can use it with the magnetic pad. Also disappointing is the fact that I cannot cut anything thicker than cardstock. It will not cut even the thinnest coaster. I was SO looking forward to having one... and am now regretting it very much. It took 3 or 4 weeks after I contacted the Spellbinders site about my problem before they even responded (I called them twice and also emailed them), and then all they did was send me the magnetic pad. They didn't even address why the spacer pad won't work. It is too bad... I think it had the potential to be a really useful tool.
I have a new Rass Wizard. It took me a bit before
getting the matt's to engage .
I find that if the magnetic cutting matt and die have to be in the top middle of big plates.
then I can get them to slide in the rollers .
hopfully this will help
Thank you, Carol. I did not get a thin white rectangle plate with my Wizard... so have none to try it with. That's what I mean about them sending out Wizards with all the wrong parts, or some missing... and incorrect instructions on the video and in the book. I have had my Wizard since September or October, so they will probably not send me the missing plate for free. It would certainly be good public relations, however - which is something they badly need!
I too just bought the Wizard and cut three dies where it was working fine. Then, on the fourth cut it quit ratcheting. I have read everthing I can on the web about it as Customer support is closed today. I think it is stuck in back out mode. It won't ratchet. I can get the plates in but, when I pull the handle back up you don't hear the ratchet sound and it just backs the plates out again. The button on the side is not locked. It flops about 1/4 of an inch back and forth. It won't move otherwise. Can I be helped?
I tried rolling the plates in from the bar but the handle just moves up with the movement. If hold the handle, it won't budge. Very frustrating having to explain why a $100 tool won't work after one day of use.

I am having the SAME issue....I wonder if anyone has done something to fix this, or who I need to contact or whatever, I am REALLY frustrated like the person in the quoted text. I would LOVE to be able to use mine and could use some help fixing it.
Thanks for ANY advice..
Darcy
Don't expect any help from Spellbinders.. they only sell their product, they don't stand behind it with any support. I gave up and bought the Big Shot, which is a waaaay better product.

Call the toll free number at Spellbinders and they will walk you through it, the team there is very helpful! 1-888-547-0400
Sometimes in shipping the switch on the handle can move and put it into reverse, this might be what happened. Call them!
I have a new handle coming in the mail today. Spoke with Andrea (I think) and she was very very helpful, kind and considerate. Thank you for your input. In the meantime, I took the ratchet part off and am using a 13mm wrench!!! It's working great now....
Help...I have a blue wizzard...bought on ebay....my sandwich is stuck...I can't find a "reverse switch" anywhere. How do I get the sandwich out.
Any hepl is appreciated
Vanessa
Hi Vanessa,
I've had the old purple wizard before I got the second generation that sounds like a ratchet. What you need to do for your blue wizard is this...
"from the old wizard manual"
If a sandwich does become jammed in the Wizard, remove the lever assembly (handle) by grasping the colored leaver cap (colored end of the handle) on the end of the roller shaft, pulling it straight off and away from the machine. This may take some force. Do not twist the leaver when removing, do so will damage handle mechanism and void your warranty.
Then place handle onto bottom roller. Pump gently to release jam. Remove leaver from bottom roller and place back into top roller.
Hope that helps. I know I had a few jams on my old wizard but this worked without any problems and unjammed my stuck sandwich. Or you could just call Spellbinders and they will help you with your problem.

I've had lots of problems with my purple wizard, HOWEVER, Spellbinders has come to the rescue each and every time. My handles have quit ratcheting 3 different times, and I'm on my 3rd handle from them. You can either call them and request a new handle or email them. From my personal experience, their customer service is A+.

Thanks, it worked...any idea where I can get a copy of the"old usere manual" since I bought this on ebay it didn't come with instructions.
though it may be a harder machine to become acquainted with, I still wouldn't give it up.
Become familiar with the Cd enclosed to explain it, it does require a "push" to start.
You will never have to worry about this machine "cracking, because of plastic" like other machines, such a relief

How the heck do you use a cuttlebug emossing folder in the raspberry wizard I've tried the tan embossing mat, the magnetic mat, the universal mat, and combinations of cereal box mats and nothing works.

According to the Spellbinder's website
"How do I use a Cuttlebug Embossing Folder in the Wizard?
Using a Cuttlebug Embossing Folder is slightly different depending on the model of your machine. For Purple Wizards, simply sandwich the Cuttlebug Embossing Folder with paper inside between the two White Master Mats. For the Raspberry Wizard, start with a White Master Mat. Add the Cuttlebug Embossing Folder with paper inside. Next, cover it with a Tan Embossing Pad. Complete the sandwich with a Blue Mat from the Charm Embossing Kit."
